WinCustomize Subscribers Get Some Extra Goodies

WinCustomize Subscribers Get Some Extra Goodies

When we say you'll be getting new features when you subscribe to WinCustomize, we mean it, especially with the upgrade to WC2k7.  With the move to a more modular design and heavy use of CSS, we can implement changes much quicker than before.  Today I have two changes to share with you that have gone live in the past week or so.  Some I think a few have you already noticed and chatted about briefly.

  1. Would you like your Nav Bar on the left, or on the right?
WC2k7 moved the navigation bar to the right of the page.  Some of you love the change, some of you hate it.  There are arguments for and against having it on either side of the page, and they're all valid.  It comes down to personal taste ultimately.  Well, we've listened and our whiz-bang CSS and design guru, Dark-Star, whipped up a simple sub-theme for the site that flips the navigation bar from the right to the left.

My navigation bar aligned to the left of the page.

  2. Was 48 skins per page too few?  How about 100?
If you're a non-subscriber, you have a pretty limited number of skins you can view per page when browsing the skins libraries.  One of the biggest advantages to having a subscription (aside from killing those pesky ads) is the ability to select a much larger number to display per page.  This makes browsing a lot easier!  The upper limit used to be 48 per page, which would give you 12 rows of gallery items before you had to go to the next page.  Well, considering galleries like WindowBlinds have well over 4,000 items to go through, you'd still be clicking through 86 or so pages to reach the end.

Now, thanks to Code Monkey Dean, the upper limit has been cranked to 100 skins per page!  It will take just 41 clicks of the "next page" button now to reach the very end of the gallery.  Going along with this rather large increase in images to display, T-Man figured out how to drastically speed up how we serve images on the site.  So those 100 skins will load up in a blink of an eye!

To get access to these new options, just click on the "Settings" link at the top of the page and go to the "My Account" tab.  Make your selections and click "Update" and you're done.

We hope you enjoy these two new features, and we'll be working hard to keep the flow of extra goodies going throughout the year!

So buying premium skins and DesktopX themes doesn't go to help run the site. Is this so? I am sorry for being so blunt. What can I say? I'm a A-hole sometimes.

Half the proceeds go to the skin author, the other half goes to WC. But giving $2 per skin hardly covers the costs. WC subscribers get all sorts of benefits besides the new goodies mentioned in this thread.

Left side or right side, I feel so spoiled. How did I live without this must have "extra goodie" for so long.

That's coming. Shouldn't be to much longer, and the forums will work the same way.

Woohoo!!!!

It ain't worth 20 bucks! Maybe 5.95.

Cmon.. whats 20 bucks these days? I personally haven't subcribed yet but only because I can't find my bloody Paypal card. The old "support the site" really doesn't work for me, it's all about the bottom line, it is a business and I know bandwidth costs money and paying employees does too. At least their looking for ways for subscribers to have a better experience. Its no different on most other sites.. and besides.. we know ur just joking.. your such a kidder !

the site improvements are awesome, great job on this.
I love having my nav bar on the left again, viewing 100 skins per page is awesome.
I definitely believe it was worth getting a wincustomize subscription several months ago before the new site & all of it's changes.

If you use this site constantly, participate in forums, download software, upload & download skins, etc. and now with all of these recent improvements, it's even more reason to purchasing a subscription to this site. I look forward to renewing my subscription!

Congratulations to everyone involved in improving this site, you do very good work!

Well, I would have appreciated this back in January - but, Im used to the navigation being on the right at this point.

IR Braniac:"my" site, skins, watchlist and settings didnt make the left switch...

Ditto, - so its back to the right for me too, no point in half being on the left and half on the right.

Credit card maybe? And you don't need a card to use PayPal.

The one nice thing about this option is that in using firefox my avatar kinda hides the "settings" link, so having the libraries listed on the left solves that problem...although I got used to it being in the right.

WC subscriber is level 5, are you sure you have a subscription, or maybe you just have the ODNT subscription? They're different.

If you did purchase a WC subscription, try to cross-reference your account...though I can't find where to do it now. o_O
