Skinning of some menus broken in 5.50.023?

Certain menus, such as the drop-down Open File menu in SKS, are not skinning properly (both background & item mouseover) with the 5.50.023 refresh release; they were skinning fine in 5.50.021. Ordinary menus & the IE Favorites menu still skin normally.

5.50.023:

The mouseover, which I failed to capture here, is just the normal Windows highlight color.

Which OS are you using?

Does this happen with other skins?

Thanks, Neil.

On XPP SP2 here (32-bit), with all updates.

Here's same menu in Clockwork Orange (very slick, vStyler ):

Can anyone else reproduce this?

Daiwa: What version does WB show as in the System Information screen?

SysInfo:

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 5 (5.5 (build 94 x86))

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

Your machine does not support per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

This is because :

Your computer graphics hardware does not support acceleration of per pixel alpha. WindowBlinds requires this for per pixel alphablended borders as without it performance would be poor. Please see if you can obtain new drivers for your graphics hardware. Recent ATI & NVIDIA boards should support this feature. Onboard graphics tend not to.

It appears you have enabled limited per pixel mode, so WindowBlinds will support per pixel, but with no hardware support.

Hey Neil, just thought I should add, I have removed SkinStudio from Per Application in WB config.

Hey Neil, maybe will help bug hunt, have same issue with Apophysis beta

Thanks but that is not the same issue.  What you are seeing is a skin issue (incorrectly set menu background colours)

Ah, thanks Neil, I now see that Daiwa's issue is with the Pull Down Item not applying correctly.

Working ok for me. This is a skin I'm currently working on:-

FWIW, I'm using a .tga for the menu background with translucency enabled and a .bmp for the menu item with magic pink transparency for the normal state. This worked fine in 5.50.021 & prior WB5 versions, but not in 5.50.023. I'll try using a .bmp image for the background without translucency & post back.

I can't find a combination of images that fixes it.

Using .tga's with translucency for both background & item - no work.

Using .bmp's with transparency only for both - no work.

Using mixed .tga background/.bmp item or .bmp background/.tga item - no work.

Sigh.

Unfortunately, neither unloading WFX nor hiding shadows in the skin has any effect.

Good thought, though.

Something in the tweaks made between 5.50.021 & 5.50.023 has affected these menus (at least here). I still have 5.50.021 running on another rig & the menus are fine.

Good thing I've made it a habit to check this site before "blindly" trusting the upgrade versions on SDC. I think the ol' Windowblinds 5.5 (not really 5.5) of a month ago helped in the development of that habit...

Apparently not everyone is having this problem. Might work fine for you, JRSCCivic98. Easy enough to roll back if it doesn't. In my case, seems to only affect those menus I've shown in SkinStudio itself and they all still "work", just look funny. Menus everywhere else, including IE favorites, continue to skin normally.

I reverted to 5.50.021 and not only do those menus paint correctly again, but MDI buttons and dialog backgrounds paint correctly again, too (mentioned in another thread by I.R. Brainiac). Methinks proof of the law of unintended consequences surfaced in the 5.50.023 update. You know the drill - no good deed goes unpunished.
