DeskScapes 1.01

DeskScapes 1.01

Beta on Object Desktop (1.0b)

Update: DeskScapes 1.01 is generally available! Visit http://dream.wincustomize.com to download the latest version.

A new beta of Stardock DeskScapes is available for Object Desktop users. It supports (and includes) two dynamic animated wallpapers (Dynamic Dreams). That is, animated wallpaper that is generated on the fly as opposed to a looping video.

The advantage of Dynamic Dreams is that less CPU use is involved and users can control the experience through a performance setting which lets users choose between quality and speed (similar to the kinds of settings in a PC game). The better your video card, the higher the resolution you can run Dynamic Dreams at maximum quality.

Note the low CPU usage. Screenshot taken on a ThinkPad T60 laptop

Once DeskScapes 1.01 completes its beta cycle on Object Desktop, it will be released to the general public.  Object Desktop users will be receiving some premium Dynamic Dream content as part of their subscription to ObjectDesktop.net.

An SDK will follow shortly to allow third-parties to create their own Dynamic Dreams. DeskScapes 1.01 will also include a triggered based Dream (where the animated wallpaper changes based on time of day or other conditions).

Stardock will be also updating DreamMaker to v1.01 which will support dynamic dreams and include the Dynamic Dreams SDK shortly after 1.01 is generally available.

A guided tour of DeskScapes 1.01 will be available tomorrow.

Hippie, You've been around long enough that you should know that the (b) means beta and that when released it'll be whatever the next version is.
It seems pretty clear in the article's title and sub-title. I, for one, like to get early news like this/

What's the big deal?

Zubaz…WOW……..Are you the dream police. And you lose your bet,
Free @ Last-Free @ Last- SIXX is Stardock free @ last 

1Spartan - Yea, I feel your pain. I have two Geforce 7950s in Quad SLI that I am staying with XP on until nVidia cleans up the driver situation on Vista. Was going to write about this situation in an article.

(Comment #148(Sir) Zubaz Feb 24, 2007 12:43 AMsixx21, triggers will be supported soon and dreams will have extended functionality. I'll bet you'll use them then. And by the way, Stardock is a business and they are out to make money. They support this site, that provides free skins, the give some away and they sell others. Of couse . . they are giving away Dreamscenes and Dream Maker. Hmmm . . .bastards!)

I have one question or 2 that needs answered! actualy 3!

1. Why, does DeskScapes Earth.Dream and Sample.Dream work with my Desk Top resolution set with Dual Monitors both set at 1280 x 1024 and none of the other (.Dream) files work? Video card ATI X800XL max settings Max. Resolution - 2048 x 1536 @ 85 MHz My Monitors are Extended, which would make them at this resolution 2560 x 2048!

2. What is the best way and how do I open a .dream file to see what the settings are when it was made?

3. Why do people answer a post or quote if they don't know or just want to run their smart mouth? If you can't answer my post, then don't quote or reply to it, Thank you!

I'm sorry....was unaware this was your personal thread....I could swear it was posted by Frogboy.

Your comment in #3 was answered in #4, all else 'should' be immaterial, as this is an open forum....

which would make them at this resolution 2560 x 2048!

@Frogboy - no worries brother. I know you guys will work it out as soon as possible. You always got my support and more importantly money for your products. And that is not fanboi smack talk. It is from an informed consumer with about a 15 year history of following SD development.

Jake37: Dynamic dreams work on pretty much all multiple monitor setups.

Video dreams use the MS dreamscenes video support which does not support older ATI dual head setups because the combined width of the screens exceeds 2048 pixels.

I had the original release version installed and installed the upgraded beta today through Stardock Central. Once I upgraded and rebooted I was not able to change the dream from the one that was active upon reboot. I double clicked on many dreams and the one loaded was the only one that would work. I then uninstalled the beta and reinstalled the initial release and I was able to change the dream, but now can't use the newer dream files. I have Vista Ultimate 64 on a Dual AMD64 system, with a nVidia 4600 video card with dedicated memory. One thing, I could not even change to a flat desktop using the Desktop background manager of Vista. Once I reverted everything works again except like I said the newer dreams that require the upgraded version.
