Welcome to South Africa
Some insights into this wonderful country

A big wide welcome to you, the World, from Martin (Gremeleon) in South Africa. This (blogging) is very new to me but I have always wanted to inform people about the country I was born and live in.
It amazes me that there are still folk who believe that South Africa is a wild wilderness. Yes, we do have wide open spaces with animals that roam free and have been known to attack humans. But I have seen that in other, more "modern" countries.
In future "issues" I will attempt to provide insightful news, photos and snippets that may not otherwise be known, coming from an ordinary 'average Joe'.
To start with, a photo from my office window. Yes, that is razor-wire you see. This is more to keep stray farm animals out.
Our company is situated in the heart of South Africa, in a small town called Bloemfontein. It is, in fact, the Judicial Capital of South Africa.
We occupy an old farmhouse that sits on what we in South Africa call Agricultural Holdings (basically a small plot of farming land) 14km outside the town.
It is a quiet farming area and after having spent much of my working life in Johannesburg, the change from the bustling, stress-filled metropolitan lifestyle to the almost tranquil existence here is therapeutic.
No, Bloemfontein is not a rural town. It has modern shopping complexes, cinemas and a vibey nightlife (at my age I don't do "nightlife" anymore). Working out of town, we have the best of worlds. Calm serene workplace, modern city 10 minutes away.
Weekly snippet: Bloemfontein is also the capital of The Free State province (similar to a State in the US), where the biggest meteorite crater is located. It has recently been declared a World Heritage site!
More about me as a citizen later....
