A look back

I remember how the forum used to be a place to get help. a place to have fun, a serious or silly place.  Look at the 2 threads that have thousands of replies.  Start from the begining of them.  You will get an idea.  I remember when people like elvee, wolfman, Fuzzy Logic, Jafo [and so many more that are no longer with us], used to post to help people and to have fun.  We used to have a ball.  Yes, there was a flame or disagreements now and then and most of the time we all got together and were still friends.  I enjoyed helping people and partaking in the humors side.  It was fun and enjoyable to come here.  Its not anymore.  Seems people don't want to have fun, just tear people apart.  I guess thats the way they have fun.  Just some of my thoughts.

Good post WOM. Maybe we can all get back on track and make it a fun place to post and make friendships.

I think you and I are looking in different places WOM.  WC may have it's problems; every family has problems but I still see people helping, people having fun, people complaining, and minds getting changed.

The trick isn't to look back and sigh and reminisce.  The thing is to look to the future (glance back for lessons learned) and make things better.

Call me naive ...but I've got a fair bit of faith in this community.

There's still a lot of fun people here, and I think we're just experiencing a bit of a rough patch ~kinda like turbulence on a flight.

Eventually, you come through the other side of it, and it's once again smooth.

Yes, some of the fun has gone ...but I don't think that's permanent.

Those that would intentionally attempt to cause trouble will eventually be identified for the nuisances they are...

I am helping others and getting to know the people that help make Wincustomize home because I want it to be a place where everyone feels welcomed. I have nothing to gain...just a real good feeling.
And as Jafo said....there are good things coming....Not exact quote

And its up to us to make sure those good things keep coming & coming...be it new site changes...people having fun or new people wanting to join.

This just to show that the community is alive and awake . We fight, we have fun, we do what ever usual community would be doing. People come.. people go... heck even one day I will go too.. either by my intention or by the calling of almighty. At the end only the top boss left to switch the light off...

hmm suddenly I remember the last episode of Babylon 5 Into the Light...or something like that.... have a nice day..or nite where ever you are..

basj, damn good show.  I have the complete series and that last episode was great.

WOM yup..real good show..I have complete series too...watch it over again just recently.. last episode..just wow

Dont you think WC is just like Babylon 5 community sometimes... they fight and have fun all the time..

No, I wouldn't make that comparrison.  B5 is my favorite SiFi show.  DS9 is second.  Yeah, its been about 3 months now since I've watched it.  Just finished watching DS9 so its B5's turn again.

What we all need to do is ignore trolls as a group instead of blasting them as a group.

I am convinced that there is a small handful of people that take turns pulling everyones strings. In the past we all ganged together to rip them a new one. This must change.

There is way too much aggravation on the site now due to recent events. I guess it will go away at some point. Forums had seen better days though. Maybe with the new Forum system things will change again.

I've never had fun in the forums. Back in the day, I would pop in and leave a comment, trying to bring a little humor to the table and a certain group of people would blast me, make fun or just be plain rude.
So, I would leave for 6 to 8 months and try again. Same thing. I very rarely make comments any more. Just not worth it.
I "help" when I can. That's about it.

Imagine if each of us only posted a happy face in a thread like that ..or a silly comment...no flaming or insults or arguments .....sure takes the wind out of their sails if they don't' have anyone to argue with. It can & will be hard not to respond in the same vein as they do....but what can they come up to complain about if we do nothing but be nice? Turn it into a fun thread for us....Lets take back our forums....

I wish it were that easy - for some of us it will never be that way again. I'll just try to help someone if I can - but as far as returning to business as usual and joking like it all never happened....

Depression is merely anger without enthusiasm...

This one's for MS for the idea

Some people just get their jollies by stirrin' it up

Some just hit-and-run

Me, I'll quote Peter Sellers in "Being There": "I like to watch"

I'm with Eric. The release of Vista, the Dream thing and the fact that the forum has become the "VISTA Complaint Department" has been a strain for WC. There seems to be a higher percentage of people (mostly visitors some previous customers) not actually looking for help as much as looking for a place for their soapbox on the evils of Stardock and the evils of the Fan boy, WC elitist club we've supposedly become. I see a lot of attitude from people asking for/demanding help who are convinced the problem originates with Stardock's software even though much of the time it turns out to be something else. I expect that things will improve as time goes on.

In the mean time we've got to have more patience with the posters and remember to respect each other. USE THE SMILIES so your not misunderstood when you crack a joke. WOM things change, they always will. It helps us to remember the past but it's useless to wish for it.

I too was bothered by the recent events here but people on both sides made choices. I'm a big believer in living with my own choices/decisions. This was not the first time I've sat back and watched things get ugly and I don't expect it will be the last. For myself, I'll stick it out until I no longer enjoy coming here and then .......I just won't come.

This is a skinning site - from now on thats how I will treat it.

"Depression is merely anger without enthusiasm"

Thats off a joke email I got this AM. So I guess humour is subjective , eh?

This is for Fairry, you might understand...

I have many depressed friends and I do not appreciate the issue being turned into humor.

I've been here (mostly quiet) about as long as you WOM (I still remember what the letters stand for!). As I recall, we've always had a certain amount of dissention and "screw you all, I quit" going on. We've lost some great people over the years and will again.

Side note, I love it when folks we haven't heard from for a while drop in. Bakerstreet comes to mind. Possibly one of the most erudite and controversial members ever. I recall Brad and Bakerstreet had many a clashing sword!

Well, while I am saddened by the recent chain of events, anyone in need of a good laugh or in need of remembering just how much fun the forums can be....please gotoWWW Link
the fun starts around post#9....enjoy! I did.....

I said it was subjective didnt I ? How I meant it remains to be seen...perhaps I didnt find it funny at all...you should know that shouldnt you ?

We won't mention the Joe User/Joke user thread now...

Was only teasing you Fairry. Trying to make things brighter. Lets not mourn this past weekends events.

In all seriousness, the quote is kind of rediculous since it makes depression sound like the common cold. Depression is more than a joke o matic snip.

Good point WOM

I miss how the board used to be myself. I look at it almost daily but am very rare to comment any longer. Nothing to say really.

I used to be able to help with some things but now I am way behind the times in the workings of some of the skins.

I would truly like to be a part of the site again. I did renew my sub. either way this year. I see it as that if WC is kind enough to hold onto my skins I want to hold onto my sub.

May of you on the board these days I do not even know.

Others I miss very much.

Special hi's to

WOM, Night Train, Chef Garry, Hankers and Jafo who has not commented yet to the post.

Z71, very sorry to hear you had problems even back then.
