native ability

When I play the game everything is going fine the all of the sudden my approval rating goes down to 1%. It says I have -2147483648% on native ability. I have no idea what this means or why it is so high, but it happens a lot. What am I doing wrong? How can I fix it?

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. If this is a DA report, you'll find the debug in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar instead. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

you didn't name your leader "George W. Bush," did you?

To test to see if it's GW, first check to see if the Senate is overwhelmingly voting you in even if approval is at 1%.

Your leader didn't happen start a war over "Spore Ships" another Civ supposedly had because your "spies" told you they did?

I am having this problem as well. I can play for a while then my approval rating drops from where ever it is to 1%. Each of my plants report the same # for native ability as reported above. The first game this happened I lost a planet and my approval went back up. The second time this happened I lost a planet and stopped playing the game. The third time it happened I lost 3 planets. Each times the same minor race took over the planets. They are the Brindlia. What's going on here? I was getting into this game before this happened.

I decided to do a little research on this problem. I thought it might have something to do with tech or the ethical choices one makes.

I started a game, dedicated everything to research (60%) and populated only one additional planet.

I watched my approval every turn. Then it happened. While enjoying an approval rate of 98% I got 2 ethical dilema's in a row. The first one was about a plauge. I choose the neutral course. The 2nd dilema concerned native speicies on my home world. I choose the Good cource and BAM my approval dropped to 1%.

I'll start playing another game and see if I can duplicate this to make sure this question and answer combo is indeed the problem.

Yes, IIRC it was found that this issue was resulting from the event with morale modifiers for the choices. I believe Cari found and fixed the issue for DA, but if you're playing DL it may still be present.
