Add (2) start docklets side buy side to the top or bottom dock on left edge.

Locate the vista Dark Startmenu icon and apply the 2 png pics to each docklet!

TO GET THEM ZOOMING CLOSER TOGETHER right click the edge of your dock that you have the start menu in, select 'Dock Settings' select 'effects' in "zoom Effect Setting:" drag the slider farther over to the right. Now you 2icons will seperate less.

...sounds to me like this is part of a tutorial that you dont understand, perhaps you can give us the link of the tutorial, so we can perhaps help further?

I believe this was resolved in IRC (Where some of teh cool kids hang out). The instructions were part of the docklet description.
