DA - Core ships armed with weapons I don't have researched.

Hi, I bought DA yesterday and really like what I see - its a great game. I started a new game today and saw a (for me) strange thing.... I researched space weapons -> Missile Weapon Theory -> Stinger I. And I can now build the core defender ship. But the problem is that it has a beam value of 1 and I hasn't resarched beam weapons. So is this normal?

I think one of the early gateway military technologies gives you access to a crappy beam weapon, even though it isnt strictly a "beam weapon" tech. Like space weapons or militirization or something.

Yes, the root weapons tech gives you particle beams, a very large 1-point beam weapon.

Thanx Bingjack, yes I just saw that Space Weapons gave me "Particle Beam".... one day I will learn to read what it says on the screen.
