Creative Makes End-Run Around Vista Sound Limitations

But, DX10 is better, we swear!

Windows Vista, with its migration to DirectX10, will remove the hardware abstraction layer for sound.  The impact is that older games which use Direct Sound, and older sound cards will not deliver the same level of sound quality under Vista as they would under XP.  Creative, in an attempt to limit the impact on consumers, will be releasing an application called Alchemy which will auto-detect Direct Sound games and bypass the Vista sound system, restoring the lost audio quality.

Leave it to Microsoft to always screw something up.

Well, I'm not buying a new sound card just because of Microsoft. So, props to Creative on this.

I'm a liitle slow sometimes.  Does anyone know the benefits of removing the hardware abstraction layer for sound?

It's not like my soundcard was a security risk or was crashing the kernal.

I guess I'm gonna sit on the same fence as Zubaz, who was the moron at Microsoft that said "Hey, I have a great idea, you know out of the seven million tech support questions about how messed up Windows is, I have one here who says they are having a problem with thier sound card conflicting with kernal executions. Why don't we just take out the the hardware abstraction layer for sound? And solve this little problem for all Vista users. I know they haven't said anything it, but I'm sure they won't mind." and then said "And if there is a problem with it we can correct it with Vista SP 2!"

lol, I see my grammatical error. I am not refferring to Zubaz as the moron at Microsoft by the way. That should be a period after his name and then a capitol W to start the new sentence. Sorry Zubaz, my bad. The edit button is not showing, so I can't correct it. Just to clearify, I am in agreement with your statement. Amazing what a little sleep and a cup of coffee can do for you.
