Windows "Longhorn" Renamed "Windows Server 2007"

The server products division didn't have a marketing budget

In keeping with the recent tradition for less than interesting names for their server OS products, it looks like the next version of Windows Server will drop the long-used codename "Longhorn" and merely pick up a year designation when it goes RTM.  Windows Server 2007 joins the line of server products starting with Windows Server 2000 and more recently updated with Windows Server 2003.

While pretty boring and unoriginal, I'm sure it won't get quite the media razzing the consumer line names have in recent year (remember the snickering over the whole XP 'eXPerience' marketing push?).

Does it really need a fancy name though? Since it's not aimed at the average consumer Joe?
