StyleXP not changing VS

I've been using StyleXP for awhile now. Usually without any trouble. Lately, I haven't been able to change my visual style. When I try to, it just stays at the one I'm currently using. Stupidly, I decided to delete all of the desktop.ini files I could find (in My Pictures, My Music, My Documents) thinking somehow, that would fix it.

It didn't. So now those three folders lost their little special-folder images (as well as the icons for C:, D: etc under 'My Computer', and my VS is still the same. I'm annoyed as f&%!. Can anyone help?

Most of the community support here is for Windowblinds.  Have you tried StyleXP support or forums?

Ooh, sorry. I didn't know there was a support forum for it. *stupid moment*

hm... desktop.ini files doesn't have anything to do with the visual theme of windows. It does however contain information of folders, such as their custom icons etc.

I'd try to copy those files you lost from a friend or someone else with the same OS.

Ah... not advice you should follow. You should not copy ini files from someone else's pc

The solution to your problem should be: uninstall StyleXP, then restore UXTheme.dll from your Windows CD. You can then re-install StyleXP (if you must), or alternatively, try WindowBlinds https://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/ a much more complete and versatile solution.

I have to concur. I have both StyleXP and WindowBlinds. I no longer use Style XP and it is but a sad memory now. WindowBlinds is so much better.
