Stern's $83 million bonus

Howard Stern has been paid an $83 million bonus by Sirius Radio for exceeding the amount of subscriptions laid out in his contract.  This bonus is on TOP of the $500 million he was paid for signing with them.

$583 million for being a dick.  That's a stupid amount of money; it's more than the average hardworking man on the street could ever dream of and it's more than a lot of CEO's make in a lifetime.  To me it somehow negates the value not only of a dollar but of a college education - after all, Stern isn't known for his college degree, is he?  No.  He's known for being a loudmouthed prick who regularly oversteps the boundaries of good taste and decency in the name of 'entertainment'.  I personally don't find him very funny.

In fact, the only think that I find amusing about him is the ridiculous amount of money he's being paid.

Yep but think of all the idiots paying to listen to him be a dick for him to command that kind of money. It takes being a dick to a whole new stratosphere.

I like Lex and Terry and I don't have to pay to listen to them.

I remember when he used to be cutting edge. When he was not afraid of being controversial, political, and just outspoken. he always prided himself on not being like Don Imus, but he is. He's sold out, mellowed out, and burnt out. Pornstars riding giant vibrators is the best he can do. Geez. I am pretty open minded and 'allowing' if you will, but he has grown beyond tasteless to just disgusting. The scariest part is all these people 'pay' for this!

When the government finally decides to use the media to placate the lower class to keep them quiet and keep their thoughts off how screwed up things are (The Running Man...the BOOK not that stupid movie that only has the title in common) , they will most certainly tap Stern to lead the way.

I think he is a pin head too. But many love his shock radio. The market paid him, just like it does with all the fat head jocks.

It's not so much shock radio anymore as it is a cheap porn knock-off. I don't begrudge him the cash however since it is the free market giving it to him.

I thought Stern was a master satirist and I think it was a sad comment on our "free marketplace of ideas" that turning the dial wasn't enough to get him off the air. His ratings were high because people wanted to hear what he had to say. 83 million dollars is a lot of money and (using market principles), he's worth every penny of it.

By the way, he graduated magna cum laude from Boston University in 1976 with a degreeLink in Communications. So, if you are a listener, or saw his profile on "60 Minutes" you'd know he is educated.

I still argue that he brought "reality" programming to the masses in the late 1980's and early 1990's. He has contributed and changed the face of modern entertainment.

I defend him, and yet, don't feel that I need to subscribe to Sirius. I didn't agree with all his material (particularly thegraphic sex and reactionary conservative politics), but I did enjoy him, his personal stories, and the cast of the show. Long Live the King of All Media!

I have Sirius radio and it does rile me (just a tiny bit) that I'm basically supporting Stern by listening to music I enjoy. I wonder how they decided which of the new subscriptions were due to his presence and which weren't?

You're absolutely right, it does!

I am too, and I still think he's just sickening and disgusting.  He stopped being funny about 14 years ago.  Now he's just getting off on his own power.

I think he is a pin head too

Good!

It's not so much shock radio anymore as it is a cheap porn knock-off.

Exactly.

I didn't say he was uneducated, I said that he's not known for his degree, he's known for being a prick.  There's a difference.   He's shocking for the sake of being shocking, not because it's entertaining.

It would bother me too, Miah.

So he's an educated moron. You can lead a horse's ass to philosophy, but you can't make him think.
