Sarcasm, and how there's nothing to it

what dont people get about it?

Ok, what i want to know is how do people not get sarcasm? I mean I know one person that thinks everytime I say something sarcastic that I really do mean what I say. I buggs the living daylights outta me. I mean me and my friends are always in group covos. and he always thinks im not joking like the others. I just can't make him understand that im joking. If you can help me please i need a solution to this.

To be quite honest there are simply people who don't get sarcasm. Just like there are people who don't get quantum mechanics. No matter how hard they try they just aren't going to get it. No matter how well they are taught, no go.

So, while you can certainly talk about things with this person and try to explain it to them, there is a chance they simple don't get sarcasm period. I have met a few such people in my life.

Carebear~very nice article. I must dash soon~have to pay my overdue phone bill ASAP, etc. . But I wanted to tell you that as the President Of Friends Of Sir Peter Society~I can honestly offer you a wise word of advise from the very best: SPM himself. (Well, I guess I am paraphrasing a bit. But he knows I mean well...)

ALWAYS be sure your sarcasm is of the artistically humorous sort. For example, instead of merely saying: (to a rather mean spirited foe or friend) "Oh, you are such a generous person, uh huh, for sure." You can greatly improve on that (and make it clear that it is NOT to be taken literally) by simply restating it as such: "Oh my goodness old chap~your very kind heart puts the likes of Mother Teresa's to shame big time!" This is also a test of sorts? Because if the individual is silly or mentally challenged enough to actually think you are being serious? I would suggest you search for and find yourself a better group of friends in a hurry.

You are clearly a smart and very clever (I like your sarcasm a lot) blogger, and the Society would welcome you into its sarcastic fold in a hurry, huh? Just simply go check out my FoSPS blog in the humor section, and leave me a nicely worded note. (I already left a message for you there. In addition, some new truly thrilling events are taking place, and the brave and loyal Capt. Cornbread has been visiting this blog again too. So DO check it out, huh? And don't forget that note! If you are interested, I would like to put you on our brand new Society staff list ASAP. Thanks!) Carebear, you are a very sincere and clever blogger, and I think this article is a very good one. Keep up the good work! And thank you again for all your kind words about SPM. He really can use all the friends he can get right now. Thanks for the really cool blog!

Mad has a pint. When tutoring someone in the fine art of sarcasm, you have to start out being blatant. Once they've got the general jist, you can be a little more subtle.

But, as Dev said, some people just don't get it, and never will get it no matter how hard you try and teach them.

Well who do you think outta all of our friends that would take something serious that i say when I'm being sarcastic?? I mean come on...... who got mad at me awhile back for being sarcastic?? Am I ringing any bells yet? Well lets just say that it's Alex. Remember Thursday night when we were all in that big group convo. and you had to do something so you weren't in the convo?? Well all of us (meaning; me, sam, alan, alex, and shaun) were just pokin around just saying stupid sarcastic things when all of a sudden Alex blows up on me and starts yelling at me and telling me that I'm being mean to him and that I need to stop. Well yeah, that's who it is.

Oh.... ok. That makes since. Well, that'll explain why i didn't just say any names. I didn't really want to point out people that i thought could be it, and then find that I was totally wrong.
