Newb Question: Building Structures & Approval

Hello all. I am wondering if the game requires X population to have X number of structures? Like you need 100 million people to keep 1 research lab running. Or, is the only building limitation the upkeep costs? In previous games I have played you needed to have a certain percent of workers to operate a structure, just wondering if that holds true?

Also, I have played a few games, never to completion yet, but my approval rating just seems to constantly go down hill. I can build a few more entertainment structures, or drop the tax rate, but it still seems to drop. Is there some way to keep your approval rating at a certain percent, or is it set to decline each turn automatically?

Thanks in advance...

People are only good for taxes and troops, absolutely no relationship to the number of build structures.

So long as your population is growing, the morale will keep decreasing. This can only be countered by either obtaining techs/galactic morale resources/buildings to improve morale, or by reaching the planetary cap (thus stopping population growth).

Edit...Or by putting people on a colony or transport ship, thus reducing the population.

So if I stop building farms on a planet, the morale should stay about the same when it reaches its max population?

Thanks for the quick answer on the other question as well

Got it in one. It will even creep up as you improve your morale techs and snag those galactic morale resources.

I believe that if you decommission a farm and next turn it once, this will immediately reduce your population to the new planetary max and improve morale as well. Haven't done this in a while, so I'm not sure if the drop off is slow or immediate.

Happened to just be hanging out...

That's the key. Don't build more farms than you can handle. Your morale will plummet because of all the people. Find a balance between farms and entertainment buildings that keeps your morale as high as possible, so that tax rates can be high as possible. On average I have about 1-2 entertainment buildings per farm, and on planets without any farm, I build one entertainment building.

2 farms, 2 morale buildings - modify this amount according to recource bonuses. Never let your population go above 20'.

planets with no farm do not need any morale structure, unless the planet was a homeworld.

I have a sloppy impression that taking down a farm does not get that quick a morale boost--maybe the code accounts for people being unhappy about watching all those kinfolk starve to death...

In Galciv we care if you mine dangerous asteroids, suffer desease, get poisoned, scared by beasts, take drugs and suffer painfil alien things.

We don't care if you starve, you can all starve to death and we here in Galciv don't care one iota! yea um it is a seriously 'cheesy' thing.
