Problem With Start Menue

Since the new upgrade to object dock my start button, all programs pane is acting wierd. When you move the cursor over all programs the panel pops up but then disapears when you try and move the cursor up to use it. If I go back and repeat the process again then the panel stays up and works fine. If I close object dock then this dosn't happen. It only hapens when object dock is loaded. Any sugestions would be welcome. This tends to get iritating after a while!!!

I'm not sure why this would happen. It may be related to a docklet your using. You can check by disabling them one at a time to see if it's one of them.

If that doesn't help try right clicking on the Start Menu - choose "properties" - click "customize" next to Start Menu - choose the advanced tab and under "Start Menu Settings" UNcheck the "Open Submenus when I pause....."

Thanks for the reply. I have a calendar and search docklet. I took them off and it didn't make any difference. Also unchecked the open submenues , no difference.

Bump is a way of moving a post that still needs an answer to the top of the forums so that it gets attention.

Thanks for the bump lesson, now I Know. Start panel still acting up but this is not a major problem as I don't use it that often. Just a bit irritating when I do. By the way my wifes computer is doing the same thing.

I instaled OD oroginaly as the free version then uprgaded it to plus. Would it help to uninstall it and reinstall through Stardock central

it might (save your backgrounds, etc folders first)

Did the reinstall and still get the same problem. Begining to think this a system problem and not a object Dock problem. Thanks for all the imput

I'm having this same issue on a purchased version. I've tried different skins, etc. I've also searched this forum, that's how I found this thread.

Are you using a start menu docklet or using the windows key on your keyboard? Just to test try using the opposite of what you are doing now.. I use XP Pro sp2 & have used it for some time with no issues with either. Hopefully someone will come along that knows.

Just had another idea....is your all programs menu set to scroll? Mine is. Right click on start menu, properties...startmenu...advanced...checkmark scroll...may have nothing to do with it but ....

I think you may be right. I went back and re read your post. I have noticed on occasion the all programs disappearing after they lit up. Both with OD (free) running and without. I'm wondering if it's some kink of graphics issue or cursor issue or combination... whereas when we move our mouse over the cursor hot spot is considered to be off target and the menu disappears.

I get this every once in a while in FireFox's bookmarks also.

No start menu docklet is being used. What happens is I click on Start and then click on All Programs. When I move my cursor over to the menu that displays, it immediately goes behind the original Start menu. When I click Start and do it again then everything is fine.

I don't like scrolling menus but I'll give it a shot.

Nope, enabling scrolling doesn't fix it.

I haven't had that happen yet. Mine just totally disappears, same as if I clicked away from it.

I thought this was a Windowsblinds problem and was surprised to see it under ObjectDock. I was having this issue before I installed OD Pro.

I have this problem and also thought it was Blinds. But it doesn't happen when I unload objectDock Plus. I think it happens when using a dock on the bottom of the screen that is configured as a drawer type ie. it slides away out of sight when you move the mouse away. I noticed that when I go to click on the start menu then the dock appears (because go anywhere near the bottom of the screen, even if nowhere near the dock, and the dock will appear). Then when I goto the "All programs" option and then move the mouse up the list then the dock slides away. At the exact same time that the dock slides away then the main "All programs" menu vanishes leaving the original start menu and the "All programs" menu's submenu that you happened to have opened. If you then click on the start menu again pretty much straight away it all works fine.

Hopefully they will pull out a fix soon as I really like ObjectDock Plus, but I'm not using it with this problem.

Cheers

You do not have the start menu hidden while using OD ?...that may be the problem...a graphics conflict...use the hidden taskbar selection in OD...set up your dock to show the running tasks & show the system tray....with those settings I never have an issue with the start menu using a start menu docklet or the windows keyboard button..
The following tutorial shows a really cool way to show your system tray dock and allows you to even change the icon for it...so you only see an icon until you click on it...saving space on your dock

Turn off the "drawer" setting of the bottom dock and it works fine. The routine that makes the dock slide away when it is a "drawer" for some reason gets rid of the "All programs" menu if it is showing. Keeps the start menu and the sub-menus but not the "All programs" menu for some reason. If you turn off the "drawer" setting then the problem does not happen at all for me. So they really need to fix that slide away functionality.

A afternote. Defraging the C drive makes the all programs button do the same thing the first time you use it but then it seems to work fine after that. And thanks to whoever added the flyout 5 day forcast to the weather dock in the update. I Love it
