Starbase questions?

I’d forgotten how addictive this game is; love it. Again, well done Stardock team. I look forward to future additions and titles 
Now to my questions (Forgive me if posted already):
1. Is it necessary to construct economy starbases directly onto the freighter’s path in order to receive the bonuses, or can they be simply within range?
2. Will the economy bonuses show up in the ‘Details’ planet screen, and if so, does it merely say Production/Research bonus, and not economy? (Hope this question makes sense).
3. Also, if I covertly give some of my warships over to another faction (say Altarian) to help in their war against a third faction (say Drengin), will that third faction see that I’d help their enemy by recognition of my transferred ships? Thus, jeopardizing my relations with that third (Drengin) faction. I'm not sure how indirectly clandestine such a handout is, or how keen the AI might be in noticing such underhanded tactics.
On a side note: It would be really nice in the Dark Avatar expansion if there were more tradable goods available to help with diplomatic bargaining, especially when tech-trade is turned off. As it is, with tech-trade turned off, I mostly have BC or Influence points to barter, and of course vessels, bases, mines, and planets; not as feasible though as just goods in my opinion of course, which my thinking, I think, may have been somehow ‘nanotaged’ (compromised) by Kralax and his mercenary bastards. Not sure, and that…hurt my brain…slandering them…like that, oww.
