Christmas Underseige....again

Yeah, I think this is a bit extreme. I think half of the "war against Christmas" nonsense is just nonsense but I can see why people would get upset about this. Why can't people just live and let live. It doesn't bother me in the slightest to see a menorah set up somewhere. I think diversity is one of the things that makes this country great. Why do we have to all try to fit in the same mold? Why do we have to bend over backward to not offend one person? I live in the most un-PC place. Santa is present at the nativity on the court house lawn in my town and I wouldn't be surprised if he's wearing cowboy boots.

And honestly a tree is not a religous symbol. We might associate it with that but their are no Christmas trees in the bible. Jeesh, get over it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. People who get offended - offend me.

To be fair, the rabbi originally asked that a menorah (sp?) be placed in the airport to go along with the trees. Not an unreasonable request overall. The removal occured after the port authority refused. They found it easier to remove the trees than to add a menorah. The removal was voluntary by the airport, not mandated. I actually think the request was reasonable and the Port Authority is throwing a fit like a spoiled child, and expecting to win sympathy for it.

I can't imagine how christmas trees can be offensive to anyone. They are just trees if you are not into the whole christmas thing.

Do the taxpayers buy them? I like Christmas trees, but if someone told me my tax dollers didn't stretch far enough to pay for my kid's education, yet we can afford to buy a bunch of disposable trees... well...

Come on. Government first, silliness later. I don't want to be the debbie downer here, but in the end if the government spent our money where they promised to, and devoted their time to where they need to, they probably wouldn't have a spare second to even NOTICE whether it was Christmas or not...

No it's not. It's actually quite materialistic considering that's where the gifts go under. But I guess because it's pretty much a part of most families, Christians and non-Christians lives, it might be seen as such.

Nope, not an unreasonable request at all. The port people have been decorating with Christmas trees for a long time though and this is the first time they've been faced with a law suit. And yes, they did take the coward's way out by spoiling it for everyone else and taking down the trees. There was a similar problem in Brooklyn a couple of years ago and the authorities there decided to display both which made everyone happy. At the time when I lived there, you could see a giant Menorah (spell?) throughout the park just like the trees.

That's what I would think too. But as I said above, perhaps because it's related or synomous with Christmas on a whole it's deemed religious, although it's not.

I would ask this man why he has just now found it offensive enough to file a law suit. I know there are quite a few people who have nothing better to do than make our world more politically correct but come on. This year he woke up and said I think they need a Menorah. Was it just when he saw the tree or has he been plotting this for month?

I have two issues and both are timing: Why now and not years ago? and Why not before the height of the Christmas season?

So he really doesn't find the tress offensive but rather the attitude of the Port Authority if I understand correctly. If this is the case, I can't say I blame him. Would it have killed them to add a menorah? Too many Christians forget where Christianity started. Idiots. Christians should honor the Jewish traditions upon which their own religion were based.

Now if he were simply claiming that he found the trees offensive and demanding their removal I'd call him a asshat, but as it is I think that title should to the Port Authority who refused his original request.
