Hate speech

Hate speech! When did it become illegal to speak ones mind? I thought that was part of freedom of speech!

Too bad Americans don't believe in freedom of speech. Once convicted in the press a person is guilty until the press forgives the person. That same speech was used during the O.J. Simpson trial and the detective was forgiven for some stupid reason. O.J. was acquitted but has not been forgiven by the press. It appears that freedom of speech is not free unless you belong to a politically correct and protected group.

I have a problem with people telling me it is a right not to be offended. I am offended by this attitude. If you don’t like what Mr. Richards said or did then don’t support him. But what I have said for years is true. Liberals are the seat of racism in America. The liberals say racist things all day long and nothing happens to them. Spin and twist what someone not within the protected group into a racist comment then they have to die a slow political death. I could care less what Mr. Richards said in his rant! It is less offensive than what I get every day from liberals with no guts and lots of racism.

It started in Europe after WW2, when the expression of Nazi ideology was outlawed. It spread to Canada, where it became illegal to even offend people with religious expression. It's spread here now from the usual touchy-feely suspects.

Freedom of speech is dead. Period. We just don't realize it yet. People are crying and whining about the patriot act, when the real danger comes from the extreme on the other side, who want to make simply expressing your feelings a crime, however wrong they may be.

Exactly! There were racial slurs thrown both ways that night, but apparently only the white guy was in the wrong.

I am highly offended by your suggestion that the colored guys did anything wrong! they were offended by the white guys hate speech. they were provoked! you should be arrested for your obvious racist views!

Ok back to reality.

I liked it better when it was not politically correct to be offended by everything and everyone. If you did not like what someone said you did not hang around that person and that was that. Now, you have to be adept at walking on egg shells without breaking them in order to succeed now. The only thing I know of that can do that is a snake!

I thought it started in Soviet Russia in 1920. The term was being politically correct. yes, the Soviet Union was a third world nation but saying that out loud would get you put in prison or killed. The Soviet Union was a progressive nation. means the same thing but sounds nicer. Now in america you are not fat you are caloricly challenged. you are not bald you are folicly challenged. you are not stupid you are learning Impaired. Why is it that changing the words makes it ok to laugh at someone? Once people were politically correct then anything that was not politically correct was hateful and good people don't hate. Ban hate speech! But if you hate hate does that not make you a hater?

No, the soviet situation was different. It was born of paranoia and oppression. This isn't. Everyone was afraid of soviet power, but everyone admires these champions of people's feelings.

That's what makes it so much more dangerous. How can you fault people who just want to spare people's feelings, right? Given the horrors of the holocaust, how can you really fault people who want to squash such hateful ideologies?

Well, if you like freedom you do. I'm not afraid in the least of the worst excesses of patriot act. On the other hand people who think they can police my speech to make sure I don't offend scare the hell out of me.

Tyrants don't scare me, because everyone hates a tyrant. Bleeding hearts scare me, because no one is willing to stand up to their good intentions, and they have free reign to rule.

I hate the fact that you are correct. Oh no! Does this mean I am bad because I hate?

There is currently a bill in Congress to rename the nation The United States of the Offended.

Hate speech has been around since the dawn of time. It's just that now it's largely directed at the establishment when in the past it was used to protect the powerful. Nothing's changed since the first cavemen smacked each other over the head for an insult.

You don't think hate speech has been around since the invent of language? That we just made it up around the turn of the century? How arrogant.

But what is new is the stampede to ban it. You may not like hate speech, but it is part of free speech, and that is what we are losing.

No, I think you can't get your mind around the concept. Hate speech is just speech. Sure, there's been speech for a long time. We haven't started designating it 'hate speech' and making it illegal for very long at all.

In the past there've been authoritative efforts to stifle heresy, treasonous propaganda, incitement to rebellion, etc. Only very recently have we been making speech illegal based upon the hurt feelings of the people referred to.

If you'd like to prove the arrogance of the point, you could put your money where your mouth is and show historical instances of 'hate speech' laws. Otherwise you're just spewing empty outrage, Dan.

Any non-PC speech is the modern heresy. They'd burn ya at the stake if they could.

That is not what I wrote Mr. Greene! I wish you would read what I write as opposed to seeing what I did not write.

I gather from reading up, that hate speech is attempting to be outlawed, because it is a form of psychological abuse. Is that enough for you to outlaw it? I don't agree so. As for the orgins of people saying things that were intended to be offensive to others, I firmly stand by my statement that slapping a time period of 1920's or any other time after recorded history is irresponsible. Attempts to prevent people from being able to speak hate speech or speech at all, um how about Imperialism, Monarchy, Feudalism, pretty much every form of government up until democracy and republicanism prevented the free speech of persons, certainly in any way that is mattered.

let them outlaw it.....and let me get rich off the back of blacks that won't let it go. Do you know how many times I have heard racist remarks come from Blacks? Before you answer that, I lived in a rough part of large city....gangs and all.

Hate speech, even though it is disgusting, is still part of freedom of speech. Hell, while I was in the military, there were times I was told that my grandparents had to have been slavers because I am white. That was about, oh, 10 yrs ago. I could have taken that as hate speech...and I would be rich today!!

I have always heard more racist remarks coming from blacks. But, they get the free pass because they are a minority? Bull...let them outlaw it...and let me be rich. Let the blacks go back to being slaves, except this time it would be due to the words they say....let them say something derogatory towards me, or anyone in my family. Let them walk into where I work and let them say something again in there.

Hate speech goes both ways, and that is something I am sure the black community is not thinking about too much....

And for the record: I cannot even say the word that Ritchards used....I have had more black friends than I have had as white. I have had friends that were Muslim...but this crap that is coming out from this thing is simply rediculous.

Everyone is so worried about "Bush and the Patriot Act", that they are letting the snakes like this slide right in. Anyone can be offended at anytime for any reason....does America really want to go this route? I need to be rich, I say lets do it!!

Context context context. I was writing about the term Politically Correct which has now morphed into hate speech. People expressing dislike for each other is now hate speech. Before that it was called an opinion.

Mr. Greene,

I am 51 years old with a 39 year old son, 24 year old daughter who made me a grandfather and a 20 year old son. Former active duty Marine Force Recon. Disabled veteran, just retired from my own business and is now going back to school to get another degree. I think I am as grown up as I am going to get. Since I missed your sarcasm it is only fair that you missed mine.

But if you follow the logical conclusion that is where the nation will end up.

Theoretical astro physics, I think I have found the flaw in the theory of relativity as well as Hawking’s theory of time are wrong and I am working on proof.

"the flaw in the theory of relativity as well as Hawking’s theory of time are wrong"

Well would it beyond my comprehension or would you humor me and give me the long version of what you think the flaw is and why Hawking's theory of time is wrong? Which theory specifically?
It is not the theory I think is flawed. Einstein himself believed there was a flaw in his calculations and most of theoretical physicists agree but they have not found it yet. The basic part of his equation is E=MC2 (you can look that part up) but the rest does not make total sense, at first everyone believed that they were too dumb to get it so they accepted it without much scrutiny but now people are thinking he really did have a flaw. Because it contradicts quantum mechanics as well as planet formations, the two things on either sided of his equation don’t work so there must be a flaw. Well not exactly contradicts but in using his equations they don’t work outside a certain range of physics. It worked enough to create the atomic bomb but there are aspects where it does not work so well and others where it does not work at all. I think I have found part of that flaw. When it is published you will see and they will either say I am right or laugh their heads off and prove me wrong. Gosh don’t you know anything about basic science? The general belief is that there was no time or space before the big bang (that is another theory you probably never heard of.)

With Hawking he and some of the others believe that a black hole will emit an atom or two every few million years or so as a freak occurrence, meaning that black holes will evaporate over time. I disbelieve this and think I have proof in the form of a theory of my own. Hawking was trying to fix the errors in Einstein’s theory of general relativity, a few years ago Hawking’s theory was discounted and is in serious trouble of being rejected by the community but there is no proof one way or the other at this point and his math seems a bit suspect. Which is why I jumped in and started to think of how to prove him wrong and maybe correct part of the flaw which the entire community has been trying to solve for almost 80 years.

And yes, based on your statements so far I would say it is beyond your comprehension. Before I try to turn my computer into knots posting the equation you need to show you would at least get the basics I outlined above.
