Betanews (Link) reports that AMD has revealed the plans to introduce CPU-GPU Combo by the end of year 2008 or at the start of 2009.

Also, in regard to GPUs, SETI has made an beta version of their app that computes the data using the GPU instead of the CPU and got staggering differenses in results.

My concern is more in relation to the support that Intel/ATI customers will get as the focus changes. I can already hear the youngsters saying how that won't happen but, its happenned in the past and I don't believe the situation has changed that much in just a few years. Now with AMD in the driver's seat of all that is ATI, they are in the perfect position to subtly see 'bout shifting attitudes toward Intel by driver updates, little bits in the release notes, and the like. At the same time, yeah, I think that this is going to spur some very cool technology directional changes which everyone is gonna benefit from in the near future. Like what was mentioned above with the SETI signal processing. We'll see and I sure hope that I couldn't be more wrong for my cleints' sake.

I doubt any problems will arrise with drivers for intel/ati products as AMD will still make money if you add an ATI card to your intel setup and AMD have said they will continue to support and create ATI graphics products.

The whole fusion idea is surely very interesting especially from a customization point of view , it could add some very interesting graphic and even physics abilitys to the average desktop , i can't wait to see how stardock will use such cutting edge CPU/GPU products.
