slow performance on menus

I'm having some intermitant performance issues with WB5.  I see it most often when I am using a right click menu.  When this happens, the mouse becomes extremely slow and is able to display the cursor for only part of the movement. I have had this occur occasionally on drop down menus as well.  This problem occurs on all the skins I have tried, so I don't think it is the skins that are at fault.  The problem occurs on all builds of WB5 I have tried.  Any suggestions as to why this occurs and how I can correct it?

What kind of hardware do you have? How much memory? What graphics card do you use? Also open up Window Blinds click on System Information (lower left hand side) and post.

Compared to yours mines a fiat bambina ,2.0GHz athlon xp,32mb intergrated graphics,1GB ram and i only experiance a small delay with menu display but mouse across screen is ok howse the framentation of hdd (disable pagefile and hybernation file and restart then do defrag) and perhaps run a registry clean tool like ccleaner or ToniArts easycleaner there is an option in xp in properties under "my computer",advanced tab, performance button, that allows to set more processor for foreground apps rather than background other than that i'm buggered if i can think of anything else this link is a pretty choice tool i use for setting changes called regtoy,it also has it's own utilitys for cache cleaning, registry, regisrty backup and shite load of other stuff it can do for optomisation, for whatever reason the link wont display so you'l have to manully type into google to get there

I'm running Window Blinds version 5.1. Do you have the purchased version of Window Blinds or the Trial version? Your hardware specs seem fine. Do you do registry maintenance and hard drive maintenance (defrag)? Have you opened Task Manager to see what kind of system resources your using up? Just press ctrl+alt+delete keys at the same time and click on the performance tab.

I have the purchased version of WB5. I do regular system and disk maintenance, but the registry cleanup is limited to what Norton's One-button Checkup can do. I have tried other more in-depth cleaning tools in the past and have always regretted it. Even Norton reassigns broken links to new files, and I find myself launching programs unexpectedly. I should say that this performance problem exists whether the system was recently installed or after months of use. And as I mentioned, the problem is intermmitant, so I think it may have something to do with the combination of software I have on my machine rather WB alone. But I didn't notice the problem when I was running WB 4.x, which is why I think it might be related to WB5. I have tried to see what my CPU usage was at the time of the performance crunch, but I can never get the Task Manager to open fast enough to document the problem. The performance crunch exists until I have either clicked on a menu item, or it closes due to selecting an object outside the menu. My memory usage is always rather low. If I'm not using a program, I tend to close it rather than let it clutter my task bar.

I just downloaded and installed WB 5.1. Maybe the problem will go away now... do you think?

never mind *just read the bottom of your last reply after I suggested updating from 5.01(m)*

might post new info to see if any files mixed

Nope, the problem didn't go away. Well, I think I'm going to be doing a system re-install in a couple weeks, so I'll likely hold off any extensive troubleshooting until I have done that.

Well you do what you think is best there gardnerstouch. Here's some ideas for diagnosing the problem. Since you mentioned WB 5.1 and you've upgraded without performance success my suspicion turns to some type of graphics processor bottleneck. This is because WB 5.1 use more of the graphics processor than does its predecessor. So what else could be hogging system resources Anti Virus software is one (for CPU resources) and two over the course of time software seems to mysteriously find its way into our automatic startup cues without our knowing it. You could just leave the Task Panel open to see whats going on instead of trying to open it during a slow down. This way when the slow down occurs you can examine memory resources and cpu resources then examine which applications are loaded and what processes are running. Anyway hang in there sooner or later the problem will be revealed when you have more time to look for it.

For those who may be curious, I have yet to experience the lagging menu/mouse problem since I installed WB6.0 I'm hoping it's been fixed!
