Three yo yo's, all employees of a Los Lunas, New Mexico Burger King were arrested and charged each with possession of marijuanna and aggravated battery on a police officer after two Isleta tribal police officers discovered that theier hamburgers were laced with marijuana.

The cops used a field test kit to confirm the substances sprinkled on their 1/2 eaten hamburgs was in fact marijuanna, then later went to the hospital for medical evaluation. (Ironically, I bet they drove).

Not the first time it has happened.  But I pity the poor cops.  They probably get this a lot (not necessarily MJ, but other foreign substances) from disgruntled people who got a ticket or some other perceived wrong done by the cops.

Stories like this make me only want to eat food prepared by myself. It grosses me out to think about people putting stuff whatever it is on my food. yuck.

The worst part is, if the cops didn't notice, they would get fired next time they got tested. My dad is a cop, I would be pissed.

a) i don't know of any police dept that actively tests officers on the job, even in vice and narcotics units. there is "pre-employment" screening, but after on the force, no random testing takes place. the underlying reason being that if a cop tested positive, they (and the union) could claim it was from handling something or it was slipped to em, like at the burger king. in the end, it's too much of a legal headache to test cops in the real world. not to mention, when cops are given a hard time with anything, they usually have the means to make life difficult on whomever is harrasing them. even if a test did take place, ingesting a minute amount most likely wouldn't even test positive a day after, let alone after any time has passed. pot can stay in a system up to 30 days (14-20 is more common for most metabolisms) but that is only after regular use or at least significant use. a couple of specs on a burger, where the pot has not been changed into a "butter" or "oil" (a process where the active ingredients are extracted from the leaves / buds) are more likely to just pass thru the digestive system with almost nothing being absorbed into the blood stream.

b) these guys are idiots, and deserve whatever they get.

c) the title of this article using the term "poison" is a little innapropriate, in fact really inappropriate. fact is that NO ONE EVER has "od'd" from pot. marijuana has never been the cause of death to anyone, anywhere. therefore, calling it a poison is highly innacurate. you'd be more accurate in calling aspirin a poison as it kills thousands every year.

They do test cops regularly. There is a reason why cops don't taste stuff to see what it is like you see in the movies and use field test kits instead.

oh what pair of silly buggers - I can see the humorous side of what they did! (I like to picture the two stoned cops! hehehe!) The cops were spoilsports! and should have eaten it then taken the afternoon off!

They do test cops regularly

they test cops annually in most depts....not randomly as i said. some departments do have a written policy threatening random tests, but as far as i know, few actually do it. they also might test if an officer is suspected of real use of any drug or an incident has occured which draws reasonable suspicion.

the annual test is scheduled, so they can "clean up" if there is any question. also, like i said before, any union cop is going to be protected if any positive test is not backed up by another positive test on a later date and the officer had any contact withthe drug in question in the line of duty. there are exceptions, like los angeles, which can suspend an officer on one positive test. but behind the headlines, the unions usually get anyone reinstated who they don't get a 2nd positive test on.

and the "tasting" in the movies is from before the last 10 years or so when field test kits for most substances weren't available. officers really did that before they had the kits at their disposal.

regular testing and random testing are 2 different things. and upon closer scrutiny, you'll find that the "randomness" isn't usually very random where it is used. some big city narc and vice units do test those guys more regular than most other cops, but it still isn't very random, it's more mandatory then.

I have a couple of friends on the police force here and they do get random tests.

Personally I can see the humor of this, but also the sheer stupidity of it.

I just find it unfortunate that no one's ever tried to do that to my burger.

but on a more serious note, i am amazed that people haven't tried to "dose" others with liquid lsd over the years. abbie hoffman used to talk about doin it to nixon back in vietnam, but since then, i've never heard anything about it.

I used to live in Los Lunas. I've probably met those people and FOR SURE I knew those cops. What a gas! I knew there was something wrong with that town . . . ah well. Most of the people in that crappy little town can, well, shan't be vulgar . . .
