GUI Championships: Time running out...

Judging begins soon

http://www.guichamps.com

GUI Championships 2006The 3rd bi-annual GUI Championships are well underway.  Over $12,000 in cash and prizes are being given out to the winners of the contest.

The events are WindowBlinds skins, IconPackager themes, and wallpapers.  There's approximatley 2 weeks left before the IconPackager themes start getting voted on by users. So far, there's only 9 icon packages submitted into the contest giving entries a very good chance for icon artists to win won of the top prizes.

Similarly, with about 3 weeks left before judging on the WindowBlinds skins, only 7 WindowBlinds skins are in so far.

If you're a graphics designer who ever wanted to try your hand at skins or icons, you can use SkinStudio to make skins and IconDeveloper to make icons and IconPackager to create the icon package.

The home page for the GUI Championships is www.guichamps.com.

I have to admit, I've been a little disappointed this year with the amount of entries. The WP submissions seem to run rampant and yet the IP & WB submissions seem to be stagnant. I remember 2 years ago we saw incredible submissions, especially by those who are known as some of the best in the biz (e.g. DanilloOC, Pixtudio, team Skinplant, Essorant, etc.) and yet there's like no competition this time around. Does that say anything about the future of skinning or where customization is potentially going? (of course, I really shouldn't say anything negative as I don't personally create anything myself). Oh, well. I hope it gets better.

Indeed.  We'll find out soon.  If $12,000 on top of the momentum it means to the community isn't enough to bring out the best and brightest skinners, that will indeed be a sad day.

The competition timing isn't right.(shoud be better of June-July-August)

The "skinning-mania" have faded after WB5 came out.(highter video card required,Only work in XP OS and Vista OS looming.)

The promising earning living with skinning program isn't mirth.(excluded "The skin factory" troop)

With all due to above reasons,I did not surprise 2006 GUI Olympics's entree are few.

I'm not really a big fan of wallpapers and icons, but the lack of windowblinds entries is very dissapointing. I expected like the last one. A shitload of new skins. Maybe most people have just given up and are involved with VISTA..... I certainly hope it will still pick up!

Please skinners of the world. participate in this, if not for me. Do it for your loved ones!

Keep in mind a WB or IP takes FAR longer than a wallpaper...There's still plenty of time left for WB submissions, i know im not even a 1/4 done with mine.. but its gonna be a good one...have a little patience. Im sure most of the usual suspects have their skins getting lined up for submission. This site is a great example of the fact that skinning is NOT dead..if anything probably will come more to the forefront as the software \ hardware align themeselves.

Have a bit of faith in the skinners.

With the prize money that is up for grab why rush? They have 2-3 weeks to perfect whatever that it is they are working on.

This is a competition, you have to use the rules to your advantage. If you are good enough to be in contention for a top prize, why submit early? Is there any advantage or bonus for early submitters? I would be surprised if any of the winning skins were submitted prior to the last day.

Lets not forget that there are already some very good entries submitted, and that these skins/icon packages took their creators considerable time and effort. There are also some very good WP's there too.

I know your comment was not meant to be dismissive, kith.

I would also hope that there will be several more entries submitted in the near future. Given that many of the team entries are yet to submit, I think many/most people will be pleased before long.

Thanks go to those who've already submitted [and added to my downloads folder].

There are alot of us, I would think, that are just about done with Icons and windowblinds.
It just looks bad now, because the wallpapers are being judged first. If I remember correctly, the last one, everything was judges at once. This time, it's broken up into different week. So, it's bound to be lopsided.
I have a WB 95% done, it's just that I have to finish the Iconpack, so I can add the toolbars, animations and shellstyles, to the WB, to keep everything consistant.

If we only had 7 wallpaper entries, then I would worry. Don't panic, yet!

It ain't over 'till it's over. I expect the WindowBlinds entries will pick up any day now.

We currently have several WindowBlinds and Icon Packs sitting in moderation.  The focus currently has been to power though all the wallpaper submissions in time for voting to start on Monday.  So there's more content waiting to be posted, our attention is just on the walls at the moment

I got a WB on the way but it takes time to get everything right.I cant believe how many things in Skinstudio I'm still learning and I've already done at least 12 WB's.

This one will be my most complete ever and I still dont quite have everything figured.
