Software errors won't cause a restart. Open Control Panel/ System/ Advanced/ Startup and Recovery Settings: un-check 'Automatically Restart'. Post what the error says.

so this might be unrelated, but when i did what you said, unchecked Automatically Restart, i restarted my computer to be safe and when i did it ran the chkdsk utility. in the utility it deleted a few things, the normal, then when it finished i got a blue screen and the error read as follows:

"Stop: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF7AD551D, 0xF7976c40, 0xF797693c)

Fs_Rec.sys - Address F7AD551D base at F7AD50000, Datestamp 3b7d8361"

i hope that helps. if i get another error message from the actal freezing i will post it asap. thanks again.

Now there's an ancient error......

Do you have Nero installed or some other virtual drive app?

yep, nero and some PowerISO Virtual Drive Manager

Nero 'InCD" ?

the icon to launch is Nero Startsmart, and in the nero start menu the folders are Nero OEM, Nero Toolkit, Nero Vision Express 2 SE.

i have no clue what or where the PowerISO Virtual Drive Manager came from

i found an "Ahead InCD" in my add/remove programs list if that helps.

At some point you installed it and that's why it's showing. If there's no icon in the tray, it's not running.

Do this:
The error you're getting (fs_rec.sys) is the file system recognizer driver. Open Start/ Run: type "sfc /scannow" w/o quotes and follow the instructions.

Let us know.

well i typed that in and it started, then it said somehting like "files that are required to run windows correctly must be... (i forgot that part) Please insert Windows XP Service Pack2 cd" so i put the cd in and the program ran all the way through and thats it. not conformation screen or anything at the end.

It should have scanned and corrected any corrupt files. Just reboot and it should be clean and devoid of any errors.

so everything has been working great... until today. i turned on my computer and it started up fine. then it froze while i was using it and just restarted, and i still have automatically restart unchecked. then as it was loading i got this Blue Screen:

0x00000050 (0xD0863000, 0x00000001, 0x8063CB36, 0x00000000)

and it dumped my physical memory. so i tried to start it in safe mode, but i get the same blue screen every time.

actually when i restart it in safe mode i get a tad different blue screen error.

0x00000050 (0xC68E3000, 0x00000001, 0x8065E5D8, 0x00000000)

0x00000050 (0xD0523000, 0x00000001, 0x8063CB36, 0x00000000)

ok, and i screwed up my first post today. the code was:

0x00000050 (0xD0B63000, 0x00000001, 0x8063CB36, 0x00000000)

sorry about that. but i loaded windows and hit last good configuration and that blue screen came up again. so i have 3 different ones. this is not going to be a fun day.
