Bible Mythbusters III

The Flood of Noah's Day

There was not a worldwide flood as is commonly taught every child who attends sunday school.
Now, there was indeed a flood, but it did not cover the entire earth. The Hebrew word for earth used here is 'erets.
It 's definition is just that country or land or nation. The floodwaters reached a depth of 15 cubits. There is a profane cubit and a divine cubit and both are units of measurement.
A profane cubit is the length of a man's arm from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. The divine cubit is 25 inches.
15 cubits multiplied by 25 inches is 31 feet, 3 inches. That depth could be obtained by containing it in a massive basin and the breaking open of a part of the basin would have drained the water out when the time came.
If Noah and his immediate family were the only people left alive on the entire planet, one would have a difficult time explaining where all the other races of people came from since the only people on the ark were of the adamic race. All the other creatures were domestic, clean and unclean and whatever else Noah could have rounded up from the local area. The idea of Noah thrashing about in the jungles of South America or tracking down Polar bears in the frozen arctic is absurd.

The reason for the flood:
The fallen angels saw that the daughters of Adam were fair and took them for wives and they produced the Nephalim, the Giants. All of the adamic race had been corrupted (their seedline destroyed as a result of mixing), and for that, destruction was necessary. Noah was chosen, not because he was a swell guy and was good at sports but because he and his immediate family had kept the seedline pure. The Bible states that only Noah had been chosen for he was "perfect in his generations". The Hebrew word used here is: Tamim, and means without blemish and is the technical word for bodily and physical perfection and not moral. It is also used of animals of sacrificial purity. The word is rendered as without blemish, without spot and undefiled ,throughout the Bible.

The flood did not kill all the Nephalim. More likely than not, they had already wandered outside of the land that was flooded, thus escaping destruction.
We know this for a fact when we read that Abraham, when moving out of Haran into Canaan, that the Canaanite was then (already) in the land.
Much later, we read that the spies that Moses sent out to scout the territory ,came back with reports of the Giants, which made them seem as grasshoppers in comparison.

The Giants had already established themselves at Asteroth Karnaim and Shaveh Kiriathaim and were known as Rephaim and Emim.
In Canaan, they were known as the Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Amorites, Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
Two other clans were the Anakim, after Anak and Rapha. A description of Og, the King of Bashan is described in Deuteronomy chapter 3, verse 11.
The encounter with the spies that Moses sent forth is in Numbers chapter 13 verse 33.

Since the flood was not worldwide, other races in other parts of the world were untouched and since no exploration was underway at that time, I dare say they never heard of a flood, and would not know that another part of the world even existed.

We do not know just how many giants escaped to yet other countries........I always wondered about Andre the giant, who in a People magazine interview said that, his family was from Russia and that they were all very large people. As big as he was, he would have been considered a dwarf compared to the original giants. Andre was about 7'4"and weighed around 500 pounds. Og, King of Bashan was much larger and we do not know just how large the largest of the giants may have been.

There was a book, a documentary, published in 1875 titled "Giant Cities of Bashan", the author's name is Porter. Porter formed an expedition to Bashan, to seek out the remnants of these cities where the Giants once resided. It is very difficult to find , at least in public libraries. Twenty years ago the State of Minnesota had but one copy and now it is no longer available.
There were also subsequent books written about the remants of Giants in China. Expeditions in 1914, 1917 and 1927, unearthed sketetal remains of very large human bones and teeth. Teeth that the local Chinese called "Dragon Teeth", and when pulverized and consumed they believed that it gave a person "Dragon Power". The local Chinese did not want to share these bones with scientists and it is not known just how many of these remnants ever made it back to the U.S.

In Matthew chapter 24 when Christ is asked how the end will be He states that it will be as in the days of Noah. The fallen angels (the locust army) will accompany Satan (antichrist) to earth. There will be no flood, but for the flood of lies spewing forth from Satan's mouth, but we are told that once again the fallen angels will be giving and taking in marriage with the daughters of Adam.
Though there may be intercourse , there will be no Nephalim, for there will not be enough time for them to be born.

Again, this time on your turf Orion, I would like to examine this closely.

The Hebrew word for earth used here is 'erets. It 's definition is just that country or land or nation.

Actually, my strongs gives me a little more than "country or land or nation">

àøõ
'erets
eh'-rets
From an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land): - X common, country, earth, field, ground, land, X nations, way, + wilderness, world.

Now I can see where an argument might be to use the meaning of say "field" or "ground" vs "earth (at large)".

But when I see Gods description of what is to take place, I find that He certainly does mean to flood the globe, or at least cover wherever any living substance abodes:

Gen 7:4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off, the face of the earth.

Certainly this looks to me as the entire earth is inundated by the flood. Though if not, without a doubt no humans survived except of those present on the ark with Noah and his family.

You need to also look hard at 2 Peter 3:5-7. Here Peter not only uses the Flood as to compare the Second Coming of Christ, but also warns that because of the denial of the Flood a time will come when people will no longer think seriously about the Second Coming as a universal cataclysmic judgment.

Why if the flood was local did Noah simply not move to higher ground? After all, he had 100 years to move about. Seems a bit silly to build this HUGE ark (no ship in comparison to size was built until the very late 1890's and early 1900's) when one could easily traverse the earth several times in 100 years.

Now I implore you to please consider the following:

Gen 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters, of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

Here God makes a covenant to never flood the earth, killing all living things ever again.

Gen 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

Here God seals his promise with a rainbow.

Now, if the flood was local as you presume, I implore you direct your thinking otherwise as you would be calling God a liar. If the flood were a local then every time there is a local flood, God breaks His promise.

Got your ears on good buddy

A meter of water locally is not really very much. In fact, It's not really all that much on a global scale either. The geologic record clearly shows oceanic trans/regression on the western margin of the North American plate (I know this, as I have seen and studied this academically) that easily excedes 1 meter. It would not surprise me if mean sea level increased several feet this year alone due to the melting of the polar ice caps. So global rain over the course 40 days and nights could easily supply this amount of water. Personally, I think it was more like 300 meters of water:

cubit- H3967
מאיה מאה
mê'âh mê'yâh
may-aw', may-yaw'
Probably a primitive numeral; a hundred; also as a multiplicative and a fraction: - hundred ([-fold], -th), + sixscore.H3967

As well, draining any part of this water could be achieved as easily. Consider the Marians trench for example near 30,000 feet below sea level. Thats a LOT of cubits.

Please do not think that 3 meters in geologic terms is much of anything. Remember, the himalayan peaks, the tallest known areas on earth, reside near 30,000 feet above sea level. Would it surprise you that these peaks contain oceanic fossils? The Marians trench is nearly 30,000 feet below sea level. We are looking at well over 10 miles of relief between the uppermost oceanic sediments, to the lowest known point of the earthly ocean. So, as you can see 3 feet of water globally is nearly insignificant, but more than enough to kill all fleashly things; 300 meteres even more damaging. Oh, and remember that the ark was deposited in the mountains of Armenia. Mount Ararat peaks at about 13,400 feet above sea level, and at no point less than 1300+ feet above seal level.

If Noah and his immediate family were the only people left alive on the entire planet, one would have a difficult time explaining where all the other races of people came from since the only people on the ark were of the adamic race.

This is the exact question that is being discussed here. Perhaps this discussion will shed some light on that one as well

The idea of Noah thrashing about in the jungles of South America or tracking down Polar bears in the frozen arctic is absurd.

Not really all that absurd considering God can do anything Himself, or through blessings. Moses did some pretty amazing things. When God moves, miracles happen!!
