Vista Gets Closer to Release

But my keyboard still doesn't work

http://blogs.technet.com/windowsvista/default.aspx?p=2

Today, Microsoft posted their first public post-RC1 build of Windows Vista to beta testers.  This build, 5728 includes a number of bug fixes and interface tweaks but nothing major in terms of functionality or usability.  This is an interesting number since the 5700 range has been reserved for the final, Release To Manufacturing, the final build of Vista that goes to DVD reproduction and then ships to retailers worldwide.  This indicates that Vista could be declared "done" by the end of next month.

Is Vista ready for release?  RC1 is a marked improvement, but personally I'm still having issues where PS/2 keyboards and mice just don't load.  Is 5728 a major improvement?  Will the bugs and incompatibilities testers are reporting be addressed in time?  Microsoft is running rapidly out of time if it wishes to make its self-imposed deadline.

I'm still expecting the release to be pushed back to late first quarter 2007. That would be more consistant with MS's history.

I told my cousin how to get Vista RC1. She installed it, her son installed it, but I can't. It say's "Windows cannot confirm istallation on this machine". I did the pre-checkup, and everything was perfect. My nephew's computer is a 1.6 Gig, 512 rarm, a 20 gig hard drive, and it works fine. Mine is a 3.Ogig,
I gig ram around 500 megs HD. It's amazing.

Thanks, Zoomba. Hippie, that's reinforcing my hesitancy to step into Vista just yet. Thanks for the posts. Helps me feel on top of the Vista decision.

Will there be more releases to CPP users?

5728 was "released" to CPP. (Released as in someone found the iso on the public MS servers)

Downloading it now.

Actually, it's released to public officially. The Vista team posted this recently: http://blogs.technet.com/windowsvista/archive/2006/09/22/458327.aspx

I would still like to see some work done for those of us who use multiple monitors! I have never been able to get the drivers to load on my PCI video card
