Bible Mythbusters II: Void and Without Form

tohu va bohu

Right there in the beginning of Genesis ,it reads in english, that the earth was created and that it was void and without form.
That statement is not true. In the original Hebrew the phrase tohu va bohu was used and means: became waste, not created thus.
This tohu va bohu is also rendered void and without form in the fourth chapter of Jeremiah, verse 23. In verse 27 God says He will not make a full end.
He did not wipe the earth out of existence, but He did destroy all that was alive at that time.
At this destruction, entire continents sunk, mountain ranges went up, oceans that did not exist came into being and the earth was tilted on its axis. How do we know this? The earth before tohu va bohu enjoyed a warm climate even at the poles, which is why scientists are finding whole , well preserved Wooly Mammoths or Mastodons encased in ice. About 35 or more years ago, I had read an article about the first of these creatures that were found in Siberia. It was whole, and perfectly preserved and encased in solid ice. Upon examination, they found buttercups still in the creature's mouth. Neither the buttercups or the animal showed any signs of decomposition. It did not die from starvation, nor did it die as a result of injury, or old age. The conclusion they came to was that this poor thing had been standing in a field on a warm day eating buttercups, minding its own business , when suddenly it found itself entombed alive in solid ice.
During WWII, aviators flying over the Andes mountains, discovered a city atop a mountain. They marked exactly where this was, and after the war, a team of scientists went to investigate. At the bottom of a cliff that went straight up, they discovered the other part of the city, which means what? What it means is that that city existed before the Andes mountain range went up and that city was sheared in half, half staying where it was and the other half hoisted far above the ground ....too far up to have been built there for there was no easy access to the top, and no material for building such structures was to be found anywhere nearby. So, if one believes the earth is only 7,500 years old because the Bible refers to six days of creation, one has to rearrange their thinking, for the Andes went up about 14,000 years ago. I also read articles about oil well cores drilled in the southwestern U.S. and that in these cores were found articles of ancient civilizations.....tools and pottery etc. This means that these things were once on top of the ground, and now they were far below the earth's surface. They either got there from some incredible earthquake that caused the ground to open up and swallow them whole, or the land they were dwelling on was tipped upside down. Since these articles were found along with an abundance of decomposed carbon,(oil), one has to assume that the barren place where this is now, was once a lush , green land. This is true of oil and coal and diamond deposits world wide, which is why one can find oil in deserts and beneath ocean floors. There had been thousands upon thousands of cycles of plant and animal life living and dying that were once on top of land and now are buried far, far below. Why, where I am sitting right now, there was once solid ice a mile up over my head during the ice age some 12,000 years ago.
People get wrapped up in this six day of creation thing. What is a day when one cannot conceive just when time began? If one were to ask you what time was, what would you answer? What is space? Well, space and time are measurements are they not? Space is the measureable distance between objects, and time is the measurement between events. A sunrise is an event, and it occurs every 24 hours, for that is the amount of time between those events. There is time between heartbeats. There is time between the beats of a hummingbird's wings. We can measure time in very small increments, but what about enormous amounts of time? We have ages or periods......the dark ages......the cretaceous period and so forth. but what about amounts of time far beyond what we can conceive? We measure distances between objects in microns, thousandths of inches, feet, yards, meters, miles. The earth is 7,927 miles in diameter, the moon is about 240,000 miles away, the sun is 93,000,000 miles away, but when trying to determine distances far beyond that, we must use a different measuring stick. And now we join time and space together as a measuring line.
When one measures vast distances between objects in space, one must use the speed of light, and how far it travels in a given measurement of time.
Light travels at 186,000 miles per second. The time light takes to travel from our sun to the earth is eight minutes. So, eight light minutes is the time light takes to reach earth. For much more vast distances we must use the light year - the time it takes light to travel from one place to another for a period of one solar year. Nevermind that the solar system has planets whose day is longer than its year, we are speaking from an earthly view.
There is light arriving on earth from stars that have long since turned nova to dwarf to blackness, but these stars are so very far away from us, that their light is still on its journey across the endless bounds of the universe.
The six "days" are cycles of vast amounts of time or aeons. Compare the amount of time it takes an electron making one orbit around the nucleus to our moon revolving around the earth, to the earth revolving around the sun, to the milky way galaxy revolving around other galaxies and groups of galaxies revolving around other groups ad infinitum.
God is not in a hurry, everything according to its time, no matter which standard for it one would employ.
We were with the Father before the world was framed. We do not know how long ago that was and even if we did, there is no way to measure it by our standards at present.
