Do I need to install the Beta of SDC ?

The only products I have are the ones in the Drengin Games package.

Do I need to install the beta of the SDC or will I be notified when the change is necessary.

Will it have to be installed before the download of the GalCiv final release ? I'd hate to go to download GalCiv and find that I am ill equiped
