Excel File as Shortcut Won't Open

I'm using the freeware version of ObjectDock. I have a shortcut to an Excel file, but it won't open if Excel is already open. It will only open when Excel is closed, at which time it spawns Excel and the file appears.

If I click on it while Excel is open (either with or without a file open), it blinks and glows, but the file doesn't open.

Anyone know what the problem is?
Do I need an argument for Excel to open it?

Thanks,

I've tested what you have stated above and everything works ok here. Mine opens in another Excel window with or without an open file.

Note: This was tested using ObjectDock Plus

ObjectDock Properties > Advanced Options > "When shortcut is run, if program is already running, bring it to the foreground only." Disable that.

OR

Right click the icon, and select Open.

Thanks for the replies!

I don't have "bring it to the foreground" checked, so that's not it. Right-click --> Open, however, does work.

I'm still not sure why it won't work from the regular click. I tried running it with Docklets disabled, but that didn't make a difference. I tried running it with the "foreground" option on and off, but neither affected it.

In any case, as long as I can open the file, it'll have to do.

I've got the same problem as guodskrap. Right-click ---> works.

ObjectDock Plus V1.50, Excel 2003

Many thanks for further support.

I had exactly the same problems and solved it by editing the .xls file type as shown here:

Make sure "%1" is at the end of the "Application used to perform action" line and that the "DDE Message" box is empty.

Hope it helps.
