Just Wondering About a Couple of Stardock Proggies

Can't find the freeware versions of ObjectDock & CursorXP

I recently built my wife her own PC and she has become rather interested in customising her desktop as well. However, given the costs already incurred, we're not able to afford the full versions of CursorXP and/or ObjectDock for a while longer, so I'm wondering if the freeware versions are still available to tide her over until we can purchase them, along with a WC sub and ObjectDesktop.

If I hadn't already ordered and paid for my new AMD Athlon 64x2 4800+ CPU, due in next week, she'd be already be a WC & ODNT subscriber and decorating her desktop right now, but alas, the cash flow dried up and will be for a few weeks now.

Yeah, I have considered using the trial versions as a temporary measure, but given the time limits on them, I don't know if they would suffice until such time as we could afford to purchase the whole kit and kaboodle....and then I also want to avoid the possible issues some people have reported when upgrading from the trial to full versions. At this time we'd rather wait to purchase and install ObjectDesktop than run trial versions that'll probably expire prior to getting her ODNT account set up.

At present I have Bootskin, LogonStudio and ThemeManager installed on her machine to apply those skins a wallpapers, but if we could also add the freeware versions of CursoprXP and ObjectDock as well, it would greatly enhance her computing experience and help break the monotony of the Fisher Price look of XP's Luna. After using my machine for so long my wife needs even more skinnable stuff to play with, so please, if these freeware versions are still available (fingers crossed), would somebody please post the links here or point us in the right direction, it'd be much appreciated.

Have you tried the Software tab?

Yes the freewares are available - via the 'software' tab as mentioned or via the links in the Description box at each gallery.

I use the free Object Dock - tabs confuse me

You can also download them from here

the download links for CursorXP and Object Dock will take you to the free versions

Thanks, Bichur, everyone! I just got confused (which isn't hard these days) because both items on the software page have 'BUY' buttons beside them, whereas LogonStudio, BootSkin and ThemeManager don't. I therefore (wrongly) assumed the freeware versions were no longer available or had been moved to another location ....thus my inquiry.

Maybe I should've just clicked on the d/l links and not been so paranoid about getting a Stardock bill/overdrawn account notice from my bank. I dunno, this temporary cash flow thing must be doing strange things to my head.

I don't wear a hat anymore....head got too big with all this puter stuff I've had to learn (could also be that I think I'm getting good at it).

Anyway, I got OD and CursorXP installed on my wife's machine okay and now she's having fun playing with/customising those as well. I even installed XP Plus for the themes on it to help break away from that Luna look without having to revert to 'Classic' Oh well, it'll only be a couple of weeks more and she'll get her WC and ODNT subs, the full versions of OD & CursorXP to really take it to town....and if she's really, really good I'll let get Desktop Pet & Aquarium Desktop later on as well.

Am I doing all this because she's a good woman and I love her, well yes....but I also have an ulterior motive. There's that swapsy thing, where I've got something installed that she hasn't, and then I get stuck on her (for now) ODNTless machine.

Oh come now, starkers....it's the pointy one with the 'D' on it...

The two computers could be argued as techically 'yours'...[maybe semantics as a collective singular]...and DX, etc can be installed on 2 OK with the one license....all you have to do is kick her off hers when you are on yours and the 'letter of the law' of the EULA is intact...

Ha,ha! Me kick her off hers so I can EULA legally get on mine? That'd be like trying to extract chooks teeth, ready made butter from the udder and the truth outta lil Johnny.

Once she's on there, not even a crowbar would prise her off...that Araldited position's not gonna be broken even with TNT.

As for the technically mine thing, obviously, Jafo, you don't have one of those 'what's yours is mine and what's mine's me own' type wives...mine would argue the two computers technically were hers. As it is, I have to be out of bed first to ensure I get on my own puter and not get stuck on hers....being mine has more toys at this time and thus 'better'

Nah, it's nothing like that. We're often on at the same time and I'm just doing the right thing by my EULA....being that now she has the customisation bug as well. It makes sense anyhow....she can make her own choices with her own WC & ODNT subs, and I get to avoid that "I won't have you going one better than me" thing.

Just an FYI... If you click a buy button, or whatever button that will put a stardock product in your "cart", you'll have the chance to confirm your order before you're actually "billed" for it.

Thanks, jpylegirl....had a feeling that's how it works, but after picking up on GuyPC's conspriracy & paranoia thread, discovering there's aliens, corporate and gov't agents in our midst with mind reading/altering technology, I were to afeared to push any buttons just in case. Being temporarily broke, I didn't wanna take any chances of getting a bank overdraft and the Stardock Police on my doorstep with painful methods of extraction to get what I ain't got at present.

Truth be known, the new page setup was what confused me. I remember a time when the free versions were listed in a separate section to the paid versions, and that's where I got lost, not knowing both were available from the same page listing. Oh well, all's well that ends well, as they say.
