just a note

McAfee SiteAdvisor

has anyone else noticed that the McAfee Site Advisor plugin for browsers is now rating wincustomize and all it's associated pages "yellow"? could'a sworn they were green just yesterday...

Why would they be rated differently now?

dunno...but noticed it this morning...it effects search engine searches too...flags them as sites which "may" contain maliciousness and so forth

Hmm.

Probably any site that contains forums gets that yellow flag, since forums are an "unknown" in terms of security.

Hmmm...I run McAfee SecurityCenter and no worries...however, was thinking this a.m. about that long-ago thread re: antivirus progs. and was just going to reread it about the alternatives to McAfee and Norton. "Yellow"?! Cerebral rectosis! Maybe time to switch/upgrade to another AV...

It makes sense, when you think about it. Some of the Stardock apps do change our "system settings", which is a good thing in this case. But from SiteAdvisors standpoint, they are changes none the less. Stardock need to contact McAfee to clear up this erroneous report.

But did Mcafee just have an update ? Seems funny my friend sent me an amail around 2 am last night asking me about this strange problem shes having all of a sudden. She was having trouble getting onto windows screen and kept getting this repeated message

"NT on Access Scanner Service has Encountered a Problem and Needs to close"

I checked it out and the cause was listed as :

(two competing virus scanners or a bad update to the McAfee virus )

Their solution was uninstall/reinstall or a list of things to edit in registry.

Just seems odd she never has a problem till last night - I dont use Mcafee or Nortons - so I have no idea if their was an update as of yesterday.

SiteAdvisor has been amber for a couple of day now, and it is a totally separate product from McAfee AntiVirus.

amber sounds eversomuch better than yellow...doesn't even sound scary anymore...problem solved
