SETTING TAX RATES

I noticed while playing last night that as I adjusted the tax rate higher the popularity rating stayed the same, 88%, until my tax rate got around 80% at which time my popularity dropped to 4%. So naturally I backed the tax rate off a couple of ticks until my popularity went back to 88%. I left it there, as I was bringing in about four grand more than usual and went back to the main screen. For the next few turns I watched my popularity rating expecting it to plummet with the new tax hike. To my suprise my popularity began to climb until it reached 98% about twelve turns later. This was definitely not the result that I expected although I was quite happy to have the increased tax revenue as well as happy citizens. Is it a glitch? Has this happened to anyone else?

There is no bug. There are breakpoints in morale at certain tax levels, otherwise the effect of taxes is pretty gradual. The biggest breakpoint is at 80%, where your morale pretty much falls off a cliff. Other than that your morale is based on non-tax factors which were likely the reason it rose.

Once, I managed to hold taxes at 100% with about 90% approval. I had 3-4 maxed out Morale resources in that game, and was building more VR centers than factories

Anyway, what kryo said is right, it's mostly gradual, but every 10% there's a small drop off. The one at 80 is even bigger than 90, kinda weird that way.

Well, I'll be damned... That's skill. I have like morale to the max and it always drops to 4% for me at 80% tax rate, that morale even includes the 10% increase thanks to neutrality (isn't neutrality just the best!!!!).
