What do you want?

We're in the process of re-designing WinCustomize.com for the new 2007 edition.

Here are a few features that will be in it:

  1. For subscribers: It'll be skinnable.
  2. Much faster overall (see forums for a taste)
  3. Much lighter (lot less graphical content in the design)
  4. Skinners with Master access or higher will be able to optionally sell skins and themes (giving an incentive for classic skinners to keep making new stuff and an incentive for up and coming skinners to release lots of good free stuff to move up -- subscribers will get at least 25% off the price)
  5. A simpler UI to get to things more easily.
  6. More galleries
  7. Featured Skinner section
  8. Skinner forum

But what are some things you would like to see? What things of the current site do you like and would like preserved? What things about the current site that you don't like would you like changed or removed? What things from other sites would you like to see added?

Goody!!! For improvement..I have been vocal with this...the rating system needs new format. Absolutely a must! Yes, a little less graphics will be beneficial.

Private Messaging also gets my vote.

In addition to that I would like to see in the "My Skins" section of the user's profile the option to display a detailed list, i.e. similar to how individual galleries list their items, with screenshots and first few lines of the description.

Also I would like to see "skin subscriptions" - similar to how some forums have thread subscriptions, here you would subscribe to the skins. Subscribing would mean that, first of all, you could see a list of all your subscriptions, kinda like marking them favorite. However, more than that you'd be notified when one or more of the subscribed skins have been updated and/or have new comments.

Completely agree! That honestly gets my vote, I love this site to me there's not many things more to add except i'd like to see more Premium Suites. Seriously, I love purchasing them because you know their some of the best work online. Dispite some negative comments from others i'd say a good portion of windowblinds users like the premium suites. That could be a new poll on this site actually.

I don't think it's at all fair or practicable that we could 'make skinners keep them updated'.  They [the skins] are a freely offered resource of which such 'demands' couldn't reasonably be made...

Love the site and look forward to the new updates.

As one of the minority (I only have/use ObjectDock), I tend to focus on the non-Stardock areas... but I still cruise the rest of the site on occasion.

I like the sound of personal messaging too, I have found it very useful at DeviantArt since it was introduced. I also agree that the rating system needs a major revamp. (Or just get rid of it)

I would like to see the introduction of something I suggested quite a while ago. A button on the upload page that gives the option of "No Comments Required". If you want to encourage new skinners, (and I really think you need to) then you have to give them a chance of not getting slaughtered for their early efforts, or because someone doesn't like the color, or because they are jealous.
I know many people agree with me on this point, and as skinning gets harder, and less fun (in my opinion), and users become more demanding, then it's a good idea to give authors more control in this area if you want them to keep skinning.

More competitions, they are a good way of increasing quality content, and they are interesting for the non-skinners too.

Looking forward to seeing all the new stuff. This is still the best site on the net for customization, and I'm proud to be a part of it, albeit in a much lesser way these days.

-- The option to be listed as 'Anonymous Member' in Forum Statistics or similar lists.

-- Opera support on all features. WC is mostly compatible with Opera, but a few features, such as uploads, won't work.

Seperate the Object Dock Gallery into 2 or more galleries. With Icons and Backgrounds in seperate galleries.

Private messaging is a good idea.

People have said ObjectDock should be split up, but what about doing subgalleries? The 2k7 list said there would be more galleries, but it might be a good idea to have a gallery for Icons, and subgalleries with Misc Icons and Iconpackager. DX should have subgalleries, and of course ObjectDock. And anything else I didn't think of.

I'm not sure if this is what the plan is, but just what I think would help things out.

Search and filtering is weak and needs the ability to filter by multiple options and mutliple categories. I frequently come to the site and search for the highest rated skins, but since "rating" is an ordering option I can't search for the highest rated skins from the past month. I would love to be able to filter by rating and order by date. Also, the whole categorizing system needs work. It should be much easier to find skins of all types via searching and browsing.

Testing with Opera would definitely be appreciated. It's not hard to support; typically far, far easier that cajoling IE to do what you want.

PM'ing definitely, new suites definitely (or at the very least update the existing ones to the latest application features). It might be nice if skins could be tagged or associated with a particular version for apps like WB and IP since as features evolve skins become obsolete if they aren't updated. With this tagging we could set our preferences to only show us skins that were made version 4+ or 5, etc. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing how things shake out, I know updating a site like this can't be a simple undertaking.

Private Massage is a good option to have.. And the option to sell skin is something that I always look for ..but only by "Master Access and Above"..How do one get to that level?
