GC2Builder Questions

Stars

Okay I have the following questions about Stars.

Star Size: ............... 5--100
Star Pattern: ............ -100.0000 -- +100.0000
Star Rotation Speed: ..... -100.0000 -- +100.0000
Star Density: ............ -100.0000 -- +100.0000

Thanks

So, what exactly is your question? You just posted some values and the ranges for them...

FYI, GC2:Builder was discontinued, so you'r enot likely to find any support for it. There is a new map editor in development now, though; the thread for it is stickied in the modding forum.

What do the values mean? In other words, Game wise what do the numbers represent and is there a correlation to using data from actual star charts?

Another question: Mercury is supposed to be 0.15 times the Sun. If the size of the sun is say 30, then Mercury should be 4 or 5. Right?

Mercury is supposed to be 0.15 times the Sun. If the size of the sun is say 30, then Mercury should be 4 or 5.

If you want to be astronomically correct, the diameter of the Sun is 1,392,000 km. If we were to apply your radius, Mercury would have to have a diameter of 208,800 km. In fact mercury is only 4879.4 km in diameter. So if realism and scale is what you are after, mercury should be 3.505316092 * 10^-3 % the size of the sun.

Not really practical in games, especially since the planets are listed as being a few PC apart. Your best to go with a star size of 100, and mercury at 1, or if the values allow decimal places, 0.35.

Thank you,
But all I was really concerned about was how the numbers worked and what they represented. I realize I can't be too realistic with the scale here.

Well, size and rotation speed are assumably just what they say, though I have no idea what the 'normal' value would be for each. Pattern is probably a seed or scale factor for the star texture. I don't know what density would do.
