Windows Vista RC1 released on Connect

Microsoft has released Windows Vista RC1 on Microsoft Connect today. It appears this build is not yet public, but it should be released to testers of Beta 2 within a short period of time. If you have access to Vista through Microsoft Connect you should be able to download it without problems.

As soon as Vista RC1 is released to the public we will update you as soon as possible.

I don;t care what version it is...vista=the windows version of death...even if they finally release it... it's gonna be buggier than when they released windows xp..I'd stay away from vista...hackers are finding more vulnerabities everyday

I've been running the 5536 "pre-RC1" build for about a week now, and it is definitely much smoother than the previous builds. I can almost spend some serious time in it One thing I did notice, however, was IE7 having a problem rendering some of Microsoft's own web pages properly, if you can believe that.

Build 5600 is supposed to be quite similar to 5536, but with some additional bugs fixed.

Side note..
have you ever tried a build? I suggest trying RC1. Trust me when I say its a very nice OS. No matter where you go hackers will be around. They dont mess with OS X because..... well I don't need to go there.

I have tested build 5536 and I must say that Microsoft has come a long way from the the pathetic to the almost useable RC1!!! The one thing that is still a veru persistent pain in the A** though is the the stupid UAC (User Account Control) That needs to made to where you can completely turn it off, without the "red shield" residing in the task lists at the bottom. Otherwise I say Yes it is a good OS and it has definitily improved!!!

I've been running RC1 all day today...and I'm almost considering formatting my main partition and making it my primary OS. Yes, it's that good. I've tried everything from just everyday web browsing and IMing, to coding and Photoshop, and all is good so far. I haven't tried gaming yet, though, but judging from the release notes on the latest driver from nVidia (dated Friday), I wouldn't be too surprised if it didn't go that well.

My real gripe right now isn't with Vista, per se, it's with the drivers (you could blame MS for changing the driver model again, but things do have to move forward). My current audio drivers play fine (they're really XP drivers, but they work), but recording doesn't work through the mic jack, and the nVidia drivers still have no SLI support, a very limited control panel, and are admittidly (in the release notes) not up to par with their XP counterparts performance-wise.

Microsoft has really gotten their game together over the last couple months. Now if we can just get better driver support from the IHVs (Creative and nVidia, to name a couple), Vista could really turn out to be a fantastic OS!

Has anyone tried a Blackberry Device with RC1? On the Beta it would not work. The old drivers wouldn't work with Beta 2 and Blackberry has not released any new ones. I'm curious if RC1 will work with the old drivers or are we going to need to wait for a driver update from BB.

Yes you can, but then you get that stupid red shield that gripes at you. Which you can then right click on it and shut it off, however the next reboot it will be right back to irritate you.
If you know how to permanently disable it, I would be very interested in knowing. It is my only real complaint with Vista. That and driver support, however that will probably change with the final release.

Yeah i know about it, I just hide the icon in the systray. Problem solved, its no longer a bother.

nvidia is doing well graphic wise. But their RC1 release is not as good as expected. I cannot game at all, Being I could on Beta 2. They didnt do much to the drivers. But I am sure that RTM (next month?) Will bring higher quality drivers. We don't want another creative happening

Eeesh, after reading Paul's repport, I think I will wait abit longer until they get photoshop and nero working on x64 version. Wonder if me x64 bit drivers will work

Its very stable , im running photoshop cs2 + office 2003 works very well and although it does occasionally crash when i give it a bit of abuse it certainly seems to recover without the constant Ctrl/Alt/Delete im familar with in XP. Im impressed but he graphics drivers are annoying my steady 4.5 in my performance index is dropped to 1 as the 6600 (AGP) only scores 1 ? i thought that would be reserved for onboard graphics and the like !
