Modding Governments

Is it possible?

As the title says, is it possible to mod forms of government and if so, how?

What I want to do is have races starting with different forms of government and to create a lot of different forms of government.

Thanks in advance.

Mod the politicalparties.xml file. You can edit and add your own political parties if you wish.

I don't mean the political parties, I mean the actual forms of government i.e. Imperium, Interstellar Republic, Star Democracy and Star Federation

Hmm. Not entirely sure about that, since it seems to be a game mechanic as opposed to a piece of data. I'll have to check.

[Culture ID="StarFed"]
[DisplayName]Star Federation[/DisplayName]
[Cost]5000[/Cost]
[Description]Allows us to transform to a star federation.[/Description]
[Details]The ultimate form of interstellar government also requires a great deal of effort to maintain. People have very high expectations of a central government when each planet has so much independence. However, it also allows for far greater economic and industrial capacity.[/Details]
[Requires]StarDem[/Requires]
[Category]Government[/Category]
[DiplomacyAbility]10[/DiplomacyAbility]
[Model]stardemoc0[/Model]
[CultureAbility]5[/CultureAbility]
[AIValue]10[/AIValue]
[/Culture]

That is the entry in TechTree.xml, so it should be easy to find.

And, it should not be that difficult to add another tech - another government type - into the tree. It could be at the end of this tree by making the [Requires] tag read 'StarFed', or you could start a new branch at any point in the Government tree (i.e. - if the [Requires] = 'Alliances', then it would be a totally separate branch from the current offerings).

Sir Nasty, I have no idea of what you just said, or what you want to do.
The picture gives no clue, really.

Try to be a bit more precise.

UNFOG does not seem anything like a government type, but more like an effect to remove the fog of war.

that is the button i want to click to change government as for UNFOG that is
the short name for the government i want to be able to use that fifth button

there is normaly only four button there the letter are not important it is knowing what needs to be mod that is important i don`t know what all needs changing.

hope this help.

Sorry, but I don't know.

I tried doing it the simple way, but the new government type didn't even show up.

I do not have DesktopX, and didn't realize that the Government screen was tied in that way. I had assumed that adding the tech would add the button.

Shouldn't you be able to see how the other buttons are linked (through DesktopX), to get an idea of how to link the new button?

The number of government types and their associated economy bonuses are hardcoded, AFAIK. You can change the names in the strings file, but you can't add additional government types or change the bonuses.
