FlavorText.xml and GC2_Conversations.xml can't be modded?

Unless you modify the original file itself?

I've been working up a mod. I want to change the text that displays when you load a game (Galactic News, starts with "A Journey Begins" or whatever).

I copied the FlavorText.xml file into my C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Mods\Default\Data folder and modified it, but the text didn't show up on screen during the game.

I put the modified file into the normal game directory, C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Data\English, and now it does show up.

So, to modify this text (and the conversations text, too), I have to replace the text that the unmodified game uses, as well?

Somebody, please tell me I am missing something, because if that's true, I am very disappointed.

If it does indeed not work as you say (no time to test it myself right now), it's likely just an oversight. If that's the case you can email Cari or if she sees this thread Monday, she can probably fix it for the next build of 1.3.

That's what I thought, too. Sorry if I came across a little harsh; I was sampling three batches of homebrewed mead earlier...

The mod I'm working on is minor - literally! I took the eight minor races and switched them with major races. The actual gameplay part has come off without a hitch. It's actually sort of sad to see the fierce Drengin hordes confined to their single world, unable to go forth and conquer.

The problem, as I noted above, is getting the dialog text to match the races you see on screen. For instance, I switched the Altarians out with the Carinoids. When I start the game as the Carinoids, I am trying to get this to display in the Galactic News dialog:

"Sisters, today we launch the first of many colonization vessels from Carinoia to seek out new worlds for our people to live upon. The Humans were kind enough to share their Hyperdrive technology with all other races, so it is our duty to use the power wisely.

Though other civilizations will be out to recklessly dominate the galaxy, we must always strive for a peaceful existence with all other nations. If the other, mostly male-dominated races continue to insult our coding ability, however, we will punish them mercilessly. Let them cry for updates once they have aroused the wrath of CaerAine!

Let us go forward without looking back. A new age of peace and prosperity for the Carinoid Republic awaits!"
