Why i got defeated suddenly while i was winning.

I was just playing my first game on easy level and wanted to achieve a conquer win when all of a sudden game ended and the computer showed me that i have got defeated.. i was highest in everything.. controlling 75% of the galaxy...

Can anybody suggest me how this can happen.?

First a stupid question...

Are you playing the Demo rather than the real game?

The Demo times out after a certain number of turns with a 'Defeat' report.

Secondly... could the AI have achieved a Technological victory?

What exactly did the screen say?

Or were you allied with someone that went ahead and managed to ally with everyone else? I dunno even if thats possible, anyone know?

No, I don't think that the AI can win an allied victory.

I've stolen the Tech Victory tech from the AI when playing games with Tech Victory off so I know they will reasearch it. That's probably what happened.
