I'm crushing the Torians yet they claim they are winning? Possible bug?

I'm playing as the Yor on a large map on tough and the Torians declare war on me relatively early in the game. I had a pretty large military at the time, yet on the relations tab it says Torians are strongest in both military and economy. It even claims I have a military strength of 250ish while the Torians are over 300. Now this is where it gets weird. I noticed that all of the Torians planets had a population of exactly 5 billion and only 1 or 2 were actually defended by ships. So, I invade and take over about 75% of their planets with little resistance (all of the planets were very underdeveloped too). However, the whole time I'm doing this quarterly reports say that I'm losing the war badly AND the Torians refuse peace treaties and claim they are winning as I have them corned down to their last planet, and have won 100% of the battles that took place.

This happened to me to a long time ago, I was playing as the drath and I was in the corner of the map so I didn't have many planets, I invaded the iconians and won pretty much every battle, captured numerous planets, and when I talked to them they said, "you attacked and now you're losing, pathetic". WTF! I found out the reason was they had lots of shitty defenders sitting around they're planets while I had frigates and destroyers with pysonic beams and force fields, and guess what was even more ridiculous, they were using lasers and deflectors! They only admitted that they were losing when I had a fleet of destroyers and transports outside their homeworld! Also I was playing on challenging for anyone that asks.

Thats happening on my current game. Find it quite funny, as the Iconians (my current enemy in the game) remind me of the former Iraqi Information Minister, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf (aka as 'Baghdad Bob')I'm just waiting for the immortal line

Well the game calculates the strongest player as the 1 with the most ships, and the 1 with most "fleets". Or so I think , cuz everytime im playin I have my ships on the planets defending and Im with very low number like 120 while every1 else is 150+, but when I start a war and make a couple fleets, my number jumps to over 200+, and the quarterly reports say im likely to win cuz of my "economy and fleet strength".

It calculates via military power, which takes numerical value of ships into account too much. A ship can probably take on 4 of those half as powerful as it without problems. So it rates the numbers highly, while the fact is ship-ship you're superior. Once it's military is below yours, it starts checking exactly how much it's losing, goes "oh..." and starts begging for surrender.

And don't blame the AI for being stupid at challenging. It's still braindead.

The AI is always braindead.

Then why are you playing challenging, if it's so easy?

Exactly.

It does not matter what level u r playing at.

I play at suicidal 1.3b2a, AI algorithims on. In the game I am currently playing the Yor have 5 planets left, I have 33 planets, they have 4 powerful ships in orbit around 4 of there worlds, giving them the highest military rating in the game. So they r operating under the false impression they r winning the war!

When I have got 50+ warships, taken 10 planets off them, they have not even got near any of my worlds. They should be groveling for mercy, begging for peace before there entire race is eliminated, not saying my defeat is certain

It's nothing to do with me playing a beta or a bug (its been this way in every single version), its the fact the AI is scripted to just look at military rating to see how its doing in a war, which gives it a completely false impression.

Military rating needs to be altered to include number of planets each side has and industrial capacity. This would give a more accurate guide to how powerful everyone is in the game.

The AI script for each individual race is only as good as the person who wrote the script.

The OP is spot on in his post.

Good thought... Would give for a much more accurate rating. Hopefuly Stardock sees your post and acts on it. Nothing gets my goat more then when I'm 10 weeks into a war, have destroyed 50-60 of there ships, taken 7-8 planets and am suffered no losses to have the deluisional leader saying, "You attacked and now your losing... Pathetic"

Equally as bad is how military strength is calculated in the first place. The way I play, I usually have an immense tech lead, but a pathetic production capacity. This means I'm often completely in control militarily on a gigantic map despite having a dozen or less warships. The AI just seems to tot up the numbers, paying no mind to the fact my 12 warships are utterly untouchable by the 200+ enemy warships.

Just like US vs Soviet during the cold war, LoL

Democracy tends to be more refined, communism is just about numbers.
