Military Starbases

I don't know if this has been asked before, but it just occurred to me during a game. Do the benefits of a military starbase affect, say, an economy starbase that I've built in the same area? Will the weapons and defenses on the economy starbase be increased by the presence of the military starbase, much like ships are?

Starbases ARE ships in the game.

I don't think it does. If you highlight a ship in range of a military starbase you can see the increased attack and defence values. If you do the same to a starbase there is no increase at all.
