Difficulty problems..

First let me say dang it..apparently the tactical combat issue is dead and buried here, and I never got to say anything about it as I just got registered. Well let me just say something was bothering me about GC2 I felt the game was an improvement on 4X in all areas so what could possibly be missing? Then I realized it must be that there needs to be more explosions and intense battles. I read in the manual something about this fleet battle viewer, I was a bit suprised there was no mention about a flee button or any buttons cept play buttons. Ive seen about 1000 ships fight yet still no battle viewer so I cant really say if I even like it or not. I think its a huge mistake to leave a key aspect like tac combat out of a 4X game especially when the rest of the game is so solid. Maybe the reduced complexity attracts more ppl to the genre but dang..

The prob I had with difficulty is I can't find a difficulty that suits me. The first two settings seem good as practice only as the AI doesn't even seem to build any ships which is a little silly. Why not have stupid ai make stupid ships so there will alteast be something to blow up while you research planetary invasion? The next level higher and the AI including teamates, has everything colonized and mined in the first several turns.

The last thing I was wondering is if anyone has made any ship structure models and wether they are easy to make. I'm really happy with the results of my themed ships, I just wish I could start out with a small 6 sided cube instead of a prefab hull somtimes. Spending 60 minutes making a custom ship is fun in itself. But, they could atleast give an option of 'View all combat in fleet view' for those that spent and hour making a ship and would like to atleast watch in a semi-dramatic mini movie, regardless of outcome. And that would be so easy to add in an update.

Lastly, I sometimes wish they would make armor and sheilds stronger and weapons weaker. Reason being then ships fighting would require several rounds of attack instead of just one everytime(not in fleet battles). I know the game already prob takes that into account, but it would look cooler imo. Sorry for big post wanted to get everything out of the way.

In a fleet v fleet battle, the viewer shows up automatically. Go check your options to make it show up permanently, so every combat will show on the viewer.

Tactical combat is (in my opinion) awful, and Brad never wanted it in unless he could do the AI so that only a very narrow margin of statistical imbalance is allowed (4v5 you might win, 1v5 you die for definate) . Sadly TC appears to have won out, and therefore will more than likely be a big part of GC3.

Play on a higher level, tough is good to learn the game as the AI uses everything it can fairly and you can learn off it. It's also a fun to play in a level ground. Oh, and you know you can rush buy things? You have the starting money for a reason.

Ships are all .x format, if you know how to model that it shouldn't be a problem. If you don't, then it probably will be.

Attacks and Defences can be modded very easily if you feel it's imbalancing, but I quite like them the way they are.

If you want to see EVERY ship battle, then go to options, look under interface and there will be a 'battle length' option- click the arrows until you find "Full Battles." This should give you every battle in the combat viewer.

Wow thanks alot. I noticed I didn't have all my battle settings set to draw them out as much as possible.

Thanks also about the modding info. I have infact worked with .x files for the Virtual Sailor simulator. So I'm assuming you make a model in say 3ds then use the convert to x file program. I'm wondering where the textures go but if its atleast somewhat obvious I should be able to find it.

Yeah, finally I got that little magic I was missing out on. BTW - I noticed I can rename all ships, not just my own. Is that on purpose?
