I'm Mining a Weapons and Defense Resource Node...

I'm mining a weapons and defense resource node and have it upgraded to Mining (Weapons and Defense):+7 and Starbase Attack:+15. Does this mean each of my ships will get +7 to their weapons and defense? I've been getting worked in the battles with the computer so I spent a lot of effort to get this resource node, but I haven't been seeing any benefit from it yet. What am I doing wrong?

No, not at all. It means your getting a bonus of 7% applied to your ships. so a ship with 10 attack would instead do 11. get two of those babys and you can get close to a 100% bonus. muhhuhu.

Ok the starbase attack +15' only applies TO THAT PARTICULAR BASE. When you send a constructor to a mining base you have a choice to either increase mine extraction capacity or upgrade the starbase itself for attack and defense. It's easy to be confused at first.

if you look in your race stats tab, one of the values is weapons. your starbase with plus 7 adds 7% to the weapons (and defense) lines. get a few fully upgraded mining stations and you can easily pump up your damage.

The effects of a resource don't become really obvious until after you've researched manufacturing centers. Then the new mining upgrades will increase the resource's effect by a nice percentage.
