Cant order it in Oz?
According to the email I got from MS with d/l link and product code, yes it can be ordered from Oz....
In fact, my d/l began, but IE encountered a problem (damned Adobe Reader plugin), had to close, and upon returning to the link, I kept getting an 'access denied' page. Can't email MS directly about it so I rang MS in Oz to find out why, etc....
The support guy said that I'm eligible, my link and key were/are valid, that it's most likely due to a server error/overload at the MS home site and to try again later. However, I'm wondering if the interrupted d/l, IE crash, may have resulted in invalidating my link somehow? Wouldn't think so, though.
Hope not, but the guy at MS (Oz) said that I could re-apply if there were to be the case.
Love new toys...hate it when I can't get at 'em
But I was wondering is there's any CRC checksums for the download so I can make sure it's not corrupted when it's done. Anyone?
TRying to download via MS's downloader gives me a message that's the server is too busy, but downloading the other link works perfect.
I can confirm that.
Anyone like to send me it on DVD?
Jafo,
Send me an e-mail [email protected] with all the address information.
I can send it tomorrow morning at the latest.
But I want to make sure it's allright before I try to install it. Still looking for a md5 or crc value. Can anyone here who has downlaoded it (32bit english) post the crc or md5 checksum of their iso image?
Build 5384 (MSDN/Connect/WinHEC original, staged Workstation distribution): *NEW* - File Size = 3.12 GB (3,355,598,848 bytes) *NEW* - CRC Value = 0x67E089E0 *NEW* - MD5 Value = 0E733AB1A8E8FF9A8684FD3639332773 *NEW*
That matched my download.
btw, here's a free AV app for Vista. I'll install it after I finally get the OS installed.
...If I clean out my cookies, temp files and history, close/reopen IE, I can get the d/l to begin, but before it actually starts saving to disk I get an error message saying that documents & settings either does not recognise the file format or it is corrupt.
Finally found a way to contact MS by email, however, just waiting on their reply ...hopefully it helps resolve the issue. Thing is, I imagine they're inundated with enquiries and quite busy, so I'm not expecting it anytime (real) soon.
Sort of wondering if there's some sort of conflict on my main OS (XP Pro), and whether or not booting into my games OS (XP Home) could/would fix my dilemma? Also thought it might be caused by winRAR (file starts to save as a zip) and it cannot manage a file that large? Ideas anyone? I mean, it would be sad, tragic even, if Vista SP2 comes out before I get this figured
Jafo,
You've got e-mail!
DVD will be on it's way tomorrow morning.
I didn't think that it mattered if a file was recognizablle or not to download, but give it a shot I suppose.
Link
Can anybody advise me on this?
Have tried booting from disk and also installing while already booted up.
Both times I can't get any further than 10%
Bit gutted really, am trying another download, this time using their download manager

Thanks oodles, Corky...[though Nakor says he's already ho-hum about Vista after 10 months of it]...

It still needs a lot of optimization, but most of the old contols seem to be there, with quite a few bells and whistles besides.
Assuming MS optimizes it well in RC1 and final, it should be quite nice once you get used to how it presents everything. There is certainly a lot of "WinFX" effects in all normal operations.
At least I found how to disable the "User Account Control". It was driving me bonkers!
(Hint - Accessories > run > secpol.msc > Local Policies > Security Settings > User Account Control:...).
Well, when I downloaded it with out any download manager, it saves as an ISO. I downloaded ISObuster, so ISO files are now recognized on my computer. Maybe you should download an ISO-opening program and retry the download.
I have ISO buster and a ISO plugin for Nero, so I don't think it's that...I had WinRAR installed, and every time the d/l failed I got two messages, a Windows one saying docs & settings could not handle the file, and the other from winRAR saying the file was either corrupt or too big for the archive....
I've since uninstalled winRaR in the hope it would resolve the issue, but now I'm getting the too busy page on both d/l links and can't say whether or not it has. I certainly hope so, though
