My computer is old but can still run Windows Vista.

I bought my computer in 2002 when windows xp was very populer (still is now). not

And i downloaded the windows vista upgrade advisior Link

it told me that Windows Vista was capable. Not only was it capable, it was capable for Windows Vista Ultimate!

That's the best windows Vista there!

I am surprized really.

My main purpose for this thread is to give everyone the link and tell me what type of Windows Vista is it capable with.

Bash2cool, Could you please tell me the basic components that make-up your computer....just the cpu, video card, & memory?? Thx, I'd really appreciate it!!! Mine is a 2004 model & only gets up to WVHP. Thx!

Thanks for the link, Bash....just checked mine and all is okay for Vista with my machine. The only thing I'd need to do is upgrade my graphics card to one with a TV output/input to get full use of the multi-media components. Other than that, it supports Aero and other Vista features.

Looking forwards to trying it out.

Ouch! I had no problem with the requirements for Ultimate Vista but the drivers were a whole different deal.

Network Adapter
Card Reader
Printer.......etc.etc. all had "Contact Manufacturer".
This rig is brand new w/Vista Capable sticker on it. I would have thought at least the internal component drivers would have been covered. I would be wrong.

I imagine this will improve as they start to nail down everything......for the foreseeable future it's good ol' XP 4 me!

Bash2cool, THX BIGTIME for taking the time with posting your system....I knew I should have gone to an Intel processor two years ago.

George....You don't have to be running Intel. I have an AMD 3200+ (Venice core) with 1.5gig HDDRAM, a 64mb nVidia GeForce Turbo Cache graphics card, and the Vista update check says I'm a-okay for the Ultimate package, Aero and glass effects, etc.

However, I will upgrade my graphics card to take advantage of the TV/multi-media options Vista has to offer.

That's strange Sir starkers because,( I don't want to bore you with this), I'm running AMD/Xp 3200+(Barton core) with Corsair XMS 1.2gig DDR SDRAM dual channel 3200LL...also my video card is an ATI X850XT 256mb Platium Edition - you'd think I'd be past at least the Home Premium Edition, but not according to the upgrade advisor!!

My laptop passed all the test as well and is ready for everything Vista has to offer
I have a Dell XPS M170 with Pentium M 2.13 GhZ, 1 GB memory and 256 MB GeForce 7800 GTX.

I'll say it's strange. We have similar system specs, CPU, RAM, etc...your video card is better...yet my machine will run Vista Ultimate and yours won't.

Correction to RAM specs....mine is Corsair DDR SDRAM, I.5gig dual channel. Don't know where I got HDDRAM from ....must have had drives on my mind.

I wonder if the difference between machines could be in the Mobo/BIOS settings? Maybe someone more knowledgable than I could answer that. My Mobo is an ASUS A8N-VM, if that helps.

It's really moot for myself anyway stark(I'm sticking with XP regardless), but I just wanted to compare what someone else comes up with after scaning their PC with the WinVista advisor...the first two selections: Strengthen Security & Search and Organize as you know are chosen by default since both come with all editions....I then picked Elegant User Experience w/Windows Aero & all came out fine - this is were I get the "ALL CLEAR" Vista Home Prem. Adition. IF I select any other features - (there's 8 in all) - I run into trouble. Just one other thing - when I selected "Prem. Photo, Music & Movie Experiences" it indicates I need a new driver update and/or new sound card...I have a new Creative X-FI card with the latest updates!!! I could see this if I was using an Audigy 2 ZS (much older hardware!!!)....go figure???

i may have to upgrade my system a bit but i'll do what is needed

DAMN I can't have VISTA! I need 15GB free and i have only 2GB. As for the rest i made sure my PC was Vista ready before they got their Vista name.

Only scanner driver says to contact manufacturer, but i'm pretty sure HP is already working on the upgrades.

my computer says that i need to contact manufacturer in almost everything!!

but i really don't need those fancy features.

as long as it does what i want..then its all good.

as for George Rodgers, i think you should to that test again...because it's impossible to say that yours isn't capatible.
