Stardock has released what may be the final beta for WindowFX 3 before it is released to the public.  WindowFX is a program that allows Windows XP users to add a ton of user-chosen special effects to their Windows experience.

WindowFX 1.0 introduced users to alpha-blended shadows for windows on the desktop.  Since then, WindowFX has continued to add new features and new effects.

WindowFX 3 takes advantage of many of the same technologies that allowed WindowBlinds 5 to see such a significant performance improvement over previous versions of WindowBlinds (such as making use of more video card hardware acceleration).

New features in WindowFX 3 include a host of new effects for minimizing and maximizing windows, taskbar thumbnail previews, an alternative Alt-tab previewing behavior, and more.  WindowFX 3 will be $19.95 on its own or can be purchased as part of Object Desktop.

Users of Object Desktop can download the beta for WindowFX 3 right now.

The Alt+Tab feature is pretty neat. Do you have any plans of animating it? Like haveing the thumbs slide as you tab them.

no shadows for per-pixel skins.

i don't think it would happen, how is WindowFX supposed to figure out if there's already a built-in shadow on per-pixel skins?

the skinner ticks a box in skin studio that sets a selfshadow = 1. Wfx could check for that i suppose?

WFX could read the settings of the current WB skin.

The best place for a shadow when using a WB per pixel skin is in the skin itself.

WindowFX will not be enabling its own shadows when the current skin is a per pixel one.  This decision was made for compatibility and performance reasons.

But the problem is then that the WB designer has to either pick thier favorite shadow of include other shadows as subskins. I understand the choice but it does limit the users customization options.

Hey Neil,
Where can I submit a bug for the current Wfx beta? The oversized start buttons that go outside of the start panel bar aren't made transparent with the rest of the start panel, just the part that is flush with the bar only ...
