Google Gadgets

When will the madness end?

http://desktop.google.com/plugins/page/2/

Microsoft's Sidebar supports "gadgets" and now Google's sidebar supports plugins that have recently been branded as "gadgets".  Gadgets, widgets, oh my. They are everywhree.

So would you guys like us to put up sections to support Google gadgets and Microsoft gadgets? Let us know.

I don't see a need for other gadget types now. Let's wait and see how the market plays out. remember Active desktop? Ouch.
I notice you didn't ask about adding konfab widgets/gadgets/thing-a-ma-bobs? They would be the most natural fit. The app is stable, there are lot's of do-hickeys, they fit in the WC mission statement (https://www.wincustomize.com/AboutSite.aspx).
I'd rather you didn't add anything until the site is stable, fast, and the subscribers get some swag.
Like we need more traffic.

Now we can wait for a bunch of kids stating that dx gadgets are all stolen from google.

Any confirmation yet as to whether DesktopX will be enhanced to allow it to create Vista gadgets?

Aaron, you are right on the money w the Yahoo!/Konfabulator Gadgets........they are a VERY natural fit with DX.......the Googles look lame in comparison

Aaron

It's so odd to see my real name here. Cool . . . but weird. {/Offtopic}

My great-grandfather used to have these things on his desktop. He called them the calendar, the inbox, the calculator. He even had a window that he could look at to see the weather.

Stardock stole those ideas from him!!

well personally I prefer even on Web sites to refer to people by their 1rst names....it's JUST more personal...to my question at hand: could you look into why I can no longer have a 'Feature' skin present on my subscriber personal home page;I was re-arranging things this week & cannot place a 'preferred' skin on top of my screenshots...thx

I'd like to see Yahoo widgets here too, but I doubt Yahoo would allow it.

We should see how flexible and capable Microsoft and Google 'gadgets' are before they're added to WC. From the previews, MS gadgets aren't anything too spectacular.

I could look into it . . but since I don't work for Stardock and they won't let me near their servers I don't know what I can do.

if they would let me work part-time from Houston I'd be all over helping you Scott.

Until then . . . I'll think really good thoughts at the servers. It can't hurt.

k....let try another route...appreciate the 'good thoughts'...can't hurt....hope all is well in Houston & pleased your little one has made a full recovery...little ones are more resilent than parents realize...but all in all at the time of the accident it did seem like things may not have a happy ending....glad it was otherwise

Uh-huh. What he said.

This will probably go over like a lead balloon, but why push these other gadgets instead of promoting Stardock's? I don't have the version of DesktopX that would allow me to make gadgets (If it didn't cost extra, I'd be making them), but I personally like using the Stardock products and that all the skinning type software I am using comes from the same source. I haven't had problems with support and everything that comes up is always handeled. I have no desire to load more apps on my computer to do what DesktopX already does. Then there is the bussiness of forums for each app, tutorilas, etc., while people are already trying to find tutorilas and help for DesktopX gadgets. Why add to that? But that's just me.

Prefer Stardock Gadgets. To me it just makes sense.

Look for my forthcoming Gidgets - not quite a gadget or a widget and I'm working on Midgets (mini widgets) as we speak

No.

I would agree with #15 but I can't help but think about the recent lag and server issues. I believe waiting until these issues are resolved would serve two purposes. A) Would'nt increase the lagg due to an influx of new people until the servers could handle them. And B) Let us see if these gadgets have staying power and a public want of skins for them.

I too have to cast a resounding vote of NO! to this query.
I for one can't stand the google crap. It's fine for searching but if I want extra items on my desktop I prefer to do it with DX.
Also, as Zubaz suggested.. don't add anything to this site until it works properly. It's frustrating enough as it stands without adding to the problems.

Note: First post attempt..

Point made.

I got that too.

No vote.
On a not to - but sorta- related subject, Is it just me or is DesktopX really stable now? I seem to be having lots of luck with my self altered themes. Altered from one of Gef's. (Gef rock's)

I think DesktopX should be promoted more, and not worry about Google and Yahoo.  Stardock has the best product, so let's show it.

Hey,

I just bought into the Entire Object Desktop and now you want to add more to what you have. The best is ALREADY HERE!!! Don't add crappy junk, that noone wants. (Even if they do want that junk let 'em get it from the junkyards they originate at). I love stardock and want no other. One other point....don't you get what you pay for anyway, (Freeware is free thereby you got something free......) point made I hope!! You have no competition in my opinion ask, Google search, i.e...type>>desktop objects....Result #1. Stardock: Object Desktop - DesktopX. Enough said?

Wow, those look REALLY CHEEZY compared to DX and Widgets.

There wasn't one that I would even bother to download.

Sure don't need to see them here.

The best thing I can say about Google Gadgets is that they seem really practical.

This is the stuff I want for DesktopX. I am hoping that DesktopGadgets.com will take off soon with truck loads of gadgets soon.

Yahoo widgets has great potential, I have just not seen them use it to that potential yet. They seem to want to wait for the community to make stuff. That's fine and all but you can make some stuff too. I'm still waiting for the HotJobs job search widget and rss feed reader.

As for Google gadgets being on this site... naaa... maybe later.

Currently being on a laptop I really don't have a need for gadgets myself. There isn't room. However I feel adding gadgets from Google and MS would only help them and not help DX. Would they in turn provide space for DX gadgets? Highly unlikely.
Stardock needs to do better promoting DX and its capabilities.

And finally fix bugs that only occur with gadgets like the problem with german umlauts that hold me from giving gadgets to my customers.
