newbie needs campaign advice

Just got the game and wanted to run through the campaign first. The first two scenarios were easy but then I have run into the dread lords for the first time. I get a great jump set up shop, then the only way I can get at the Dread lords is invade when they aren't home.
Am I missing something here? Concentrate on a certain tech? any advice?

This Game Talk forum has some good info on the Dread Lord mission in the campaign.
Check out the "Newbie Guide MKll" and the "siege wtf " thread...
OR, you can RETIRE from the DL siege mission and select the alternate mission to
form an alliance with the Torians. (Way of the Wimp)
