Tech tree needs something more

Is it me or it the tech tree somehow lacking something, i know that the tech tree has far more weapons than the previous gal civ but some how it feels as though the other techs seem to have got left behind. the other branches of the tech tree really need expanding and i think the medical technologies need to be brought back it just seemed so much more realistic with them included. perhaps more offshoots of the populsion tech tree so their were some more unusual forms of travel like wormholes and such.
also race specific techs are realy needed.

oooh... worm holes...

triggered one idea: have one tech deep in propulsion branch, called "gate jump" or sth. it will unlock a starbase "gate jump" module, that upon installation, will allow you teleport ships between all starbases that has that module. gotta have some limitations of course, like limit jumps maximum xx logistic points worth of ships per turn/month (upgradeable with extra gate modules), and requiring per turn bc expenditure to mantain...

i wonder how much AI re-tweaking will be needed in order to make them able to use this effectively...
