Chalk another point up for Perverted Justice

More fun in Florida and Dateline sting schedule

I know some of you think this website is a bad idea but law enforcement from around the country (including the FBI and Homeland Security) disagree. Check out their latest sting operation they did with the Fort Myer Police Department and Dateline NBC.

There are at least 18 fewer perverts in Florida today.

18 fewer ALLEGED perverts.

I have VERY mixed feelings about this site. While I agree with its intent 100% (getting perverts off the street), I am afraid their efforts could lead to a lot of false allegations and mistaken identities. I'm NOT in favor of ruining the lives of the innocent in pursuit of the guilty.

Watch the press conference and if you are interested, they have a perfect track record of court cases. Everytime they work with law enforcement they get a conviction or the person pleads guilty. If you take the time to look close at what they are doing you will see there is no chance of mistaken identity on those that are arrested. Take the time and watch the press conference and also read their articles on the side especially one for first time visitors and parents {Link}. Don't just label these guys as vigilantes without first doing your research on them.

Here is the program they have set up for police/perverted justice collaborations. They have contracts with law enforcement agencies from around the country set up right now.

"Info First!", our program of Police/PeeJ collaboration: We are very open and willing to implement a system in your area for our developing "Info First!" program. This is very simple to do, takes very little of your time, and allows us to connect in order to get these guys out of these regional chatrooms of opportunity. The idea behind "Info First!" is not a new one. Essentially, this is a more efficient way for you to get tips from us about people in your area who are attempting to use the internet to solicit children for sexual purposes. The only difference between "Info First!" and what we do is that we have your contact for the file. Rather than posting the info first on our website, it is delivered to you.

Step one: You contact us with an interest in having the files of people in your area delivered to you before being posted. We will not name you or publicize the agreement at this point.
Step two: One of our contributors then runs across a person in your area. The person does the usual chatlog with phone verification, but does not inform the individual that the underage person is not real.
Step three: Rather than post the conversation publically first, the contributor informs the Information First Coordinator, Del Harvey, who has your contact. You are then contacted.
Step four: An email with the chatlog, any pictures, phone number, and basic transcript of the phone conversation is then sent to your email, allowing you to read over the data and contact the contributor with information on how to "finish" the conversation with a meeting if you so choose.
Step five: You decide whether or not you want to pursue the matter further. If you choose to do so, then we will refrain from posting or commenting regarding the case while you do your work. We will assist you in any way that we can in order to help further your investigation and possible prosecutorial efforts. All contributors and verifiers are pre-screened to ensure that they are willing to testify in court. Once the legal system is then done with our original file, we will then post it. If you get the materials and choose to not pursue the matter further, all you need do is let us know. We will then post the bust to our website.

This program is perfect for pro-active law enforcement officers who really do want to help stem the tide of attempted online pedophilia. And best of all? It's free. A seasoned resource that is only waiting for you to take advantage of it. Whether you do or not is up to you, but our offer is there, it's clear, and it works. Please join the police officers and units that have already agreed to this arrangement.

July '04 Update:

We have created a massive file-sharing center for law enforcement. This area contains everything you see on the main page, plus much more.

It has the actual .dat files on Yahoo conversations posted on the website. These encrypted .dat files are MD5 hash files, meaning that you can match up the .dat file with the file on our contributors' computers, as well as the file on the posted individual's computer. We also include any and all photos sent during the chat-log, emails, and contributor notes. These files are uploaded prior to the log going on the main page. All files are downloadable with a single click from your computer.

We extend the offer of PeeJ Data Center access to any in the law enforcement field.

We can and will work with you. All it takes is one email expressing interest in working with us.

You can contact us by emailing Del Harvey at [email protected].

There is much more information on what they do if you care to look before judging them.

Yeah, the witch trials in Salem had a pretty strong conviction record, too.

I'm not saying that these people are necessarily wrong; in fact, they may well be doing more good than harm. But I DO know things aren't always as they seem, and I would have to know a LOT more before championing what these guys are doing.

I have to agree with Gid on this one. I agree wholeheartedly - %1000 if you please - with the intent of these people, but I still wonder about the way it's being done. Just like Gid said, things are not always what they seem.

I would have to know a LOT more before championing what these guys are doing.

I second that.
Again, intent-wise, these folks are dead-on. I just don't know about the means.

Ok, how would you suggest catching online pediphiles?
These people do not contact the pediphile. They simply set up a profile just as any other person would and then they might say hi in the chatroom but the initial one on one contact with the pediphile is started by the pediphile. They by no means bring up the subject of sex nor do they bring up the idea of meeting with the person. But when the subjects of sex or meeting are brought up by the pediphile they make sure the pediphile gives them enough information to hang themselves. Read a few of the chats and you will see what I mean. This is the same thing that law enforcement officers do when they do their own investigations of online pediphiles. I verified this with officers of our local sherriff's department. If they do set up a place to meet it is because they have a sting set up to catch these perverts. On every case they contact the police localto the pervert with the evidence they have before ever posting anything to their website.

In their FAQs they answer all the questions that people bring up.

One of the problems is they are not law enforcement.  They did a gig here in Va, and unfortunately it only made the news, none were arrested for it.

I HAVE read a few of the chats, Nebraska. Some of them look pretty damning, others don't.

I said before you could catch a lot of criminals simply by rounding up everyone in the inner city and throwing them in jail. Sure, you'd catch a lot of guilty folks, but you'd catch a lot of innocent folks, too.

I didn't say that everything this group is doing is wrong. But you are operating on the premise that everything they are doing is right, also with limited information. You brag about their 100% conviction rate, but you can't point to a source OTHER than pervertedjustice.com that upholds that claim. And you don't care that a truly devious pedophile with a good lawyer could beat charges stemming from most of these conversations on the grounds of entrapment and numerous other Constitutional violations.

I have met with far too many people wrongly convicted of various crimes to take this website at face value. It would be VERY easy for someone to manipulate the evidence these individuals produce.

BTW Nebraska, sorry for my manners.

I missed you!  Hope you post more often.  But I do with PJ would work with law enforcement more than the stupid networks!
