New Patch: upgrading ships (where are the components?)

I loaded a game created by last official patch. I am now using the new patch.

When I try to upgrade a ship, it doesn't show the ship modules.

I noticed when I create a new ship, it shows the modules accross the top.

When I saved the new ship and tried the upgrade, again the modules were missing.

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

When I am building a new ship, the components are shown but once you've added
the components, there is nothing other than the icons to indicate what they are.

It's not the end of the world. But I would like to know whether I am the only one seeing
this. Or not seeing this.

I have found part of my answer. In the preferences there is a part for ship building. Maybe this is new.

This box was checked: remove functional components when upgrading. And so I unchecked it.

It still doesn't work perfect. I think there should be tooltips when you mouse over the components saying
what they are. Selecting them doesn't say what they are.

you answered your own question. You have to uncheck the box, so that the compenants stay. But trying to tell what the compenants are can be a chore.
