Suggestion for adding interest to Gal Map using ship anims

People have reported jerky ship movement and ship explosions. My first request here is for SD to add a few more frames to the combat anim in particular as it is over almost quicker than the eye can see and reaches the final explosion frame and then sits for a second or so too long. It would be nice to see a frame or two of firing, ships taking damage then a frame or two extra as the explosion builds and destroys the ship.

My second and main suggestion here is based on earlier threads that confirmed that the ship graphic is a fully modeled 3d object. What would be very cool is as the ship moves, it changes direction - around planets, ships stations anomolies etc, when oit does this it turns in a flat plane which does not show off all the hard (and good) work that has gone into the models. If the ship could 'bank' as it turns (which it should be able to do as its 3d) it would look smart and additionally, when a ship starts moving or changes course, a spurt of plasma from the engine exhausts disipating into space would be nice (the anomoly plasma effects look very high quality so the technology is there).

This assumes that the ship anim routine engine is memory efficient enough to add such detail of course. We are not talking here about huge movie files.

I know this sounds pedantic, but I think it would look very cool, show of some good modeling work, and add something (albeit superficial) that would show off a very good game - many purchasers will be influenced by cosmetic aspects, we all are, then they get into the real stuff. After all we do sit and look at this screen a lot! :)

Well, if you want to be pedantic, so can I. Why does a ship not in air need to bank at all?

Tom,

Have I upset you or something?

The reason it should bank is cos it looks good (watch the Enterprise every night on cable). And games are played for fun.

Lets not go down this road - how come we have aliens at the core of this game when no one knows if they exist.

I think ships with artificial gravity and inertial compensators bank for only ONE reason, the phsycological well being of the crew members that can see through view ports. The eye can cause someone to "feel" like something is wrong even when the body's other senses fail to sense the same thing, so ship action, and the ship's inertial compensators, would have to give a hint of ship "movement" to reduce "space fatique".

sounds a good reason to me. And it looks cool ;)

I bet when the time comes, with all that power, the pilot tries to skid the back end when accelerating away as well, we ARE only human...
